When you transfer a file you should see a box like this and it shows the transfer speed.

You might want to try a few different file sizes and types to get a good average.

5GHz range doesnt go that far no matter what Router you have. Id suggest a Nighthawk from netgear honestly. http://www.netgear.com/home/products/networking/wifi-routers/R8500.aspx

I second this, and I have a reason to. I work as a Vizio Tech Support for their smart TV's and everyone that I know there pretty much has these (and we get huge discounts on TV's) but that being said I know these are really good routers. The start up is expensive but there worth it in the long run.

the strange thing is i have 4 different wifi usb cards all on win10 machines all with no driver issues at all. I have a belkin wn600, a linksys n300, a netgear n300 and netgear n600 I suggest any one of these usb cards as for pci-e wifi devices I wont use them have had nothing but bad luck and bad drivers
