E3 2022 Cancelled, Including the Online Event

Corona limitations and health risks don't explain the cancellation of online event.

Weren't we suppose to be over the event cancellation period? My company is planning a corporate retreat in May and that's like 200+ people from all over the country.
If I had to guess, I'd say the losses over the past two years makes companies more diligent about ROI.

I find it dumb not to have a live show, they dont have to have a live audience to present the presentation to. The fear of Covid is still too much of a thing, not because of Covid itself, but the media continually fearmongering, FUD, making it sound worse than it is.

Maybe ditching E3 is seen as a cost saving to many companies, hidden under the guise of safety. The costs of transport, platform, staff hospitality - I imagine it's not cheap and as much as companies make megabucks, every faceless CFO like to penny pinch wherever possible, using whatever excuse possible.

this is probably the real truth. :D

Yes, that's it. You haven't lost anyone to Covid, have you?

I mean, it's no T-virus, but it's pretty bad.

No, several, I think 6 or 7, family members have had it twice and the only relative that spent anytime in the hospital is 90 years old and already had respiratory problems. I know how bad it was at first, but hospitals are now more prepared for treatment, and coupled with the weaker variant(s), make it less threatening enough that most people stopped wearing masks everywhere. The more paranoid and susceptible still wear them.

Its not like they couldnt take precautions for that one person standing on stage all by themselves.

We all know tCovid was inspired by the T-virus!

Hot take...

I never cared much about E3. Convention style events are gross and exhausting to me to begin with... and while Im sure theyre fun, it's all just marketing to me. Im not taking road trips for a few days of hype. I kinda just dont care lol. Wake me up when the thing exists and is good and easily accessible by me.

We need negative reacts! This thread is awful!

E3 is stupid and probably a waste of money for investors. @TheLostSwede had it right — this is just a showcase for attractive women selling game trailers. This kind of expo should’ve died years ago. Covid is just a convenient excuse for people who jerk off to trailers and aspiring models.

If that’s you, do you! But no surprise that it’s probably not worth the investment for people looking for a return.

Also, old news; from January: https://www.ign.com/articles/e3-2022-cancels-in-person-event-digital-show-uncertain

I miss the E3...

I still remember the galleries of photo's @W1zzard would post of all the "Girls of E3" and whatnot. Such awesome. And now it's politically(stupidly) incorrect. Ah the "modern" age we live in.

The question is, in world where information is ubiquitous, what value does show about video games add?
It adds hands on experience for media outlets and potential buyers.

It was mostly Computex, on the last day when we were just strolling around, but in recent years we didn't have time for it, because we had interesting meetings even down to the last day of the show. Let's see what happens in the future

It used to be cool like back in the original Diablo or StarCraft. But back you usually had to wait for printed magazines to get your video games news...

Hands on what? There aren't any finished products exhibited. Media outlets, yes, they get new screenshots and videos for about a month's worth of clickbait. But that's about it.

Nonsense. If they're not finished, they're not far off as a general rule otherwise they wouldn't be at the show or the makers would just be showing off "what's coming" to get people talking. That's one of the points of a trade show, to "Show off" what makers have coming. Getting up-close and personal with a thing is INFINITELY better that photo's online..

I mean, yeah, if you're 14 years old it's cool.

And the market now includes lots of female gamers but I can imagine we'd not have pages of muscled men in hot pants.

There's quite some hypocrisy in statements of anti-political correctness. No offense to you sir.

Cue the emoji responses.

I'm not going to dignify that with anything more than this response: Shame on you for implying that only 14 year olds can appreciate hot bodies..

Why not? I'm not sexist. Bring on the eye-candy for everyone! Bring out the tight bikini, oiled up, glistening women and bring out the oiled up studs with rippling muscles. Then everyone has something hot and tasty to look at.

Frankly I’m glad I haven’t experienced such postings here at TPU. There are, um, other sites for that if that’s what one is looking for.

Doesn't suprise me at all. You can reach way more customers via social media (Twitch, Youtube, etc.), for way less investment. And you can manipulate ignorant customers way more into buying even absolute trash (best 2022 example would be Battlefield 2042) if you promote your products via paid "Influencers". It's a win/win.

Gaming shows aren't for promoting & selling games, their main porpuse is now rubbing shoulders, exchanging business cards, "Hangover" after parties & laying eachother. Inside Blizzard Developers’ Infamous Bill ‘Cosby Suite’, just the tip of the ice berg. It's like at the Olympics, but at least there they hand out 160k free condoms.

Could also be that they are scared that Herschel "Guy" Beahm IV aka. Dr. Disrespect shows up & busts the party. Hard to live stream from the show on Twitch if you get banned when he pops in your frame, lol. And there are tons of other high roller streamers Twitch banned for dubious reasons and are now "Persona non grata".

I guess the next big thing will be moving the gaming shows into the "MetaVerse". If implemented right, like if you where able to test StreamPlay games, could be a sucess.

What a fucking way to go. With so many people outright hating Facebook, EU clamping it down and most people not owning VR headset, that sure will be successful. /s

Stuff that! No thank you! Hardcore hell-no. We are a civilization that lives in the real world. Trade shows need to be conducted in the real world. F*^k the Metaverse. (No offense to you personally.)

Statistically, yes. However, Covid and the Flu share many of the same symptoms, thus why the comparison keeps popping up.
I think it's more an attempt to trivialize a far more lethal virus politically. Especially with how said poster was using it.

Note that being vaccinated does bring the lethality way down though.

Comparing covid to the flu is statistically idiotic.
For a healthy semi-young dude like me, it's totally like a flu. We've been living two fking years in this mass psychosis because of this, can this finally end?
