$4,700 for 1080p/60fps gaming? Like you said, they really should have gone with a 1440p/120Hz screen. The dual 1080's are completely wasted on this rig.

There are already a 21 inch ultra wide, Predator 21x, and quite a few 19 inch models.
However, I'm not sure if I should put those systems on the top of my lap...
 
any gtx 1070 "laptop" GPU can run anything maxed out on "1920 x 1080 IPS 60 Hz / 75 Hz G-Sync". why such a waste?
not only good 2500$ are wastedt, but that weight and thickness to cool those useless GPUs - that is a real waste.

I don't really see the point of the SLI for this laptop...
 
FOr those complaining its a 12 lbs laptop that uses 500w under load. The unit is a desktop replacement which offers some mobility. Its pretty much meant to sit on a desk. Hook it up to a 4k monitor and go to town.

They offer 1440p and 4k displays however 4k display at 17 inch is just a god damn mess due to DPI scaling etc.

Do you keep this sample or ship it back?

No I do not laptop samples generally have to be returned.

Pretty good in its own thing. SLi scaling, seriously how that can be con? Its not their fault that SLi doesnt work perfectly, blame nVidia. :D Plus as far as I know, in some cases SLi can be "persuaded" to work better (either via specific patches, or tweaks or settings). But ofc in some cases its a dud. Neither AMD solution is perfect..

Also would think about external liquid cooling loop for this..
..or even internal, its DTR anyway.

I persuaded SLI to work in this review. Something the average user wont understand and will just wonder why its not working. You tend to forget people buying these kinds of gaming systems tend to have more money than sense.

The fact is it is a $4700 laptop with dual GPUs that sees scaling in the 30-40% range. So spend an extra $1000 or so to gain 30-40% in 4 games and no scaling in the other 4 games tested. It worked 50% of the time for an increase of 30-40%. Of course bumping up resolution to 4K does allow the GPUs to stretch their legs. But in that configuration your looking at $5000-5500 at which point scaling does improve to 60-80% in 4 titles with the other 4 showing 0% and one at 50%.

It is an Nvidia problem for sure but Eurocom markets SLI support and Nvidia features. Therefore it is a con because the majority of people with brains know SLI / Multi-gpu is pretty much dead. Cheaper easier to go big with a single GPU rather than mess with the headaches.

At the end of the day this is a Halo product all the best hardware crammed into a tiny box. For that holy shit factor of "Dude this thing has dual GTX 1080s and a 7700k it even supports overclocking fucking sweet!"
 
This laptop combines the fastest midrange desktop CPU, that is also overclockable, with not one but two of some of the fastest high-end desktop graphics cards, that are overclockable, into a single portable unit that draws under 800W. 5 years... hell, TWO years ago, that would've been unthinkable, and yet here we are.

I don't deny that coupling GTX 1080 SLI to a 1080p/60Hz screen is a waste, but as an engineering achievement this unit really stands out. Yeah, it's 5.5kg, but what do you expect from a DTR more powerful than most desktops in existence?

They have been doing this for years.....I recall this over 5 years ago.

Omly difference was the fact AMD/Nvidia wouldn't release better GPUs than high-midend GPUs.

Nah, Clevo has had laptops with desktop CPUs for a long time. I even had one (Eurocom Panther / Clevo P570WM) with 4960X overclocked to 4.7GHz. You can see a list of what I currently and previous owned in my signature.

But, it is very awesome. I bench mine with the 7700K at 5.2GHz and the 1080 SLI overclocked to 2114 on core and 5600 (effectively 11,200MHz) on memory. It is truly wicked. And, the new 780W single AC adapter is a wonderful replacement for the clumsy old dual 330W AC adapter setup.

I love SLI and always have. I'm about 75-85% overclocker/bencher and 15-25% gamer. I derive more personal pleasure from overclocked benching than I do playing game, and single GPU machines are boring to me. When I do play games, it's not hard to tweak the SLI profiles and end up with something better than single GPU. When tweaking it doesn't work, turning SLI off provides the same experience as the single-GPU masses.

But, you nailed it. It's not a con for the laptop any more than anything else, and any drawbacks to SLI are not the fault of this product. In fact, this machine performs as good or better with 1080 SLI than most desktops do with 1080 SLI. Single desktop 1080 beats single mobile 1080 in overclocked benchmarks, but that is not the case. with the performance of this product in SLI. Not sure why, but the bottom line is that it works as right as it can work and the execution on this 1080 SLI notebook is superior.

This is exactly why I own it and love it. If all I were going to expect it to do is play games, I could do that with a disposable BGA turdbook with a single 980M or 1060 Notebook GPU and have decent playable framerates for less money. For those looking for something that is cheap and adequate for status quo gaming, this is not their notebook.

I had mine delivered on June 10th and have been using it now for the last month and a half, truly a beast of a machine that has left me speechless more than once already.
About the heat, yes, it is blazing hot! Out of the box it regularly hit 100C on heavy loads so I decided that a little tuning was in order.
What I did was set the multipliers in bios to 43 for unicore and 42 for each core to limit the i7 7700K to stock as it was running turbo constantly before that and then set a negative offset on the CPU voltage to get it down to 1.1016 (that is where mine was stable) at full load. Took a bit of trial and error, my setting was -155 to get there but yours will likely be different.
After that I now get max 86C on full load in a 23C room, much better. I will be deliding the CPU in a week when the tool arrives and replacing that awful stock toothpaste they used for TIM with CLP, should get it down to around mid 60's at which point I can look at bumping up the clock and Vcore again until it hits the low 80's. It also quieted down those loud fans when using it under moderate load. I don't mind the fans as they keep the system happy and I am used to working in data centres anyway (meaning I'm going deaf from all the fan noise at work) but not having them spin up during an Openstack demo in a client meeting room is more comforting to the clients. I must say however that the fans really do their job and I am really seriously impressed by the heat sink engineering that this thing has.
Mine is pretty much max'd out and is used primarily for Openstack development, I do play Wildlands on it and it screams along better than my XBox One when I do but I bought mine for work.
Given what I do with it I don't find it to be expensive at all, I am in fact amazed that I can own what basically amounts to a server that I can walk around in my backpack to job sites while still being able to game on it after hours in the hotel.
As for people babbling about 4K display scaling, I have had no issues at all and it makes every other display in the room look faded, grainy and lifeless. Best display I've owned and probably the best that's been in any of the offices I've visited. It certainly impresses the clients.
I definitely recommend this monster to anyone needing such equipment, and if you have the cash and want some bragging rights this will do it.
