Just finished playing the first game in F.E.A.R. (not bad!). Installed the first expansion pack "Extraction Point" and installed the 1.08 Patch, which claimed support for widescreen displays... well, it doesn't seem to and the highest resolution is 1600x1200.

Any ideas? ALL settings maxed out, I'm getting a min 59 FPS on the performance test, and want more resolution!

Hey dude, try this.

Find your config files (usually in documents and settings/all users/...) for the game.

Settings.cfg

"ScreenWidth" "1900"

"ScreenHeight" "1200"

Should work.

Here's the source.

A fix like that is just going to take the 1600x1200 and stretch it to fit I'm pretty sure.

You may be right... guess I'll find out. My screen is actually 1920x1200.

No, didn't even do that... reverted to the lowest setting. I changed the "1600" to "1920" and left the "1200"... here's the file. back to the way it was at top resolution:

"GammaB" "1.000000"
"GammaG" "1.000000"
"GammaR" "1.000000"
"BitDepth" "32"
"HardwareCursor" "1.000000"
"ScreenWidth" "1600"
"VSyncOnFlip" "1.000000"
"DeviceName" "\\.\DISPLAY1"
"ScreenHeight" "1200"
"RestartRenderBetweenMaps" "0.000000"

EDIT: IT DOES WORK... I missed one part: read these directions:

FEAR does not support certain resolutions from within the game. Fortunately you can assign a custom resolution by editing these lines in the Settings.cfg file. However before setting a custom resolution, first go into the Options menu in FEAR and set the Display options you want (aside from resolution). Next, close the game and Edit the lines above - change the ScreenWidth to the pixel width of the custom resolution you desire, and the same for ScreenHeight. Upon restarting the game your custom resolution will be applied. However don't go back into the Display settings screen in the in-game options as this will reset your resolution to one of the default resolutions. To check your new resolution go to Performance>Advanced Video Options and check the 'Screen Resolution' setting which should display the new resolution. You can now adjust and test the remainder of your settings.

Yes, I already installed the 1.08 patch, but only standard resolutions are available from the options menu. :wtf:

What method/software can I use to confirm the res is what it now says? Checked my monitor and it didn't tell me anything useful. No, it doesn't talk. ;)

Very odd as it gave me widescreen which was the whole reason i got the update at the time.

Maybe in your monitor menu or take a screen shot save it check the size of it.

I could have swore I saw 1920x1200 when i was playing it not long ago. At the very least 1920x1080.

Well just realized that the 1.08 patch is for first encounter not extraction point which is the addon.

But ya could try this

Maybe thats what i did i cannot remember but i do remember reinstalling the whole game and updating it fully then installing the addon.

The patches for the game are different than the original I do believe. So the 1.08 from the original wont work with extraction point. Im looking into it now.

I only get some thing like 1280x960 lol.. I must of done it by editing it.

Yes i just downloaded it all just to check lmao.

The only thing im finding to get widescreen is to hack the file.

Go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\TimeGate Studios\FEARXP\settings.cfg You can also get there from the Start Menu folder using "Shortcut to User directory".

Open settings.cfg using notepad and change the following lines to your custom values:

"ScreenWidth" "xxx"
"ScreenHeight" "xxx"

Then save the file and you're good to go. Changing the Display options in game will cause it to revert to a non-widescreen resolution.

***Where "xxx" is your screen resolution***

Yes to both (see previously), I had to do the manual edit to the settings.cfg file to get 1920x1200. The instructions clearly say *NOT* to go into the video options after doing that, it will revert the resolution back to the out-of-the box settings... already witnessed that.

Certainly looks like it's 1920x1200, and the advanced graphics menu show that, but there's no info from the monitor that tells me what the current resolution is.

In any case, I'm having fun playing it... definite graphics and play improvement over the original F.E.A.R. version, great game. Lots of spooky tension - hard to tell what is going to happen next!
