Fall Creator's Update brings siginificant performance improvement in game mode

EDIT:

I'm not sure that this commenter watched the video. Also, there is still game mode. It is a new version of game mode that is enabled via game bar.

make sure you have the gamebar turned on

apparently gamemode needs to be enabled via the gamebar , according to the Learn more link in the M$ settings.

"Game Mode helps ensure that you have the best possible gaming experience while playing games on Windows 10. When you use Game Mode, we make gaming your PC's top priority so you get the best game quality and performance.

To use Game Mode, make sure it's turned on for each game you play. To turn on Game Mode:

  1. Open the Game bar by pressing the Windows logo key + G.
  2. Select Settings in the Game bar.
  3. In the General tab, select the check box for "Game Mode."
Some games may have Game Mode turned on automatically. If the game is already running Game Mode, the check box will already be selected."

see, it is tucked WAYYY up in the top left corner of my screen, it looked like it wasnt positioned correctly for me.i pressed win+G, then it asked if my desktop was a game & i said yup, then it opened what u see.below

Regarding the usefulness of this function in general, I'm assuming it's going to be more of a thing kind of like ready boost ,where it makes out of date and weaker PCs a little bit more capable ,but anything like a higher end computer or in that area it'll make no difference. I'm currently testing it with Grandtheft auto five

I was confused because I thought it was supposed to show up in the settings tab as on/off switch.

As far as performance , I only played GTA 5 and in some areas where I used to see some stutter are now perfectly smooth. So I'll be damned , it does seem to do something after all.

I actually ran it at just about ultra settings (except for reflection antialiasing) and took a screenshot of about 10 minutes of gameplay with MSI afterburners monitoring graph , with and without game mode. I'm gonna upload them once I get back to my desktop ......

i saw no recognizable difference. i do see small decreases in CPU usage, and RAM usage tho...i also forgot Vsync was on

GTX970 (modified, but not overclocked)

Great!! Finally! Soon I can try GTA V on my new laptop intel hd 620.....:D:D:p
:pimp:

The game (red) and draw (blue) counters noticeably fall when it is enabled:
5~4ms -> 4~3ms = 20~25% improvement as reported in some games

In this game, it won't matter because the frame time (green) is determined by the slowest counter which is GPU (yellow). Vsync is on so it's not allowed to exceed 60 fps (16.67ms/frame).

I think you'll see FPS improvements on games that are CPU limited. In games that are GPU limited, it won't make much/any difference. It's pretty much as Microsoft said.

im sure there are some differences, i just didnt notice them, but im sure with monitoring software, and proper graphing, it could be seen.

So a very nice decrease of performance for me.

In the games i tried it was so and so the same, and i Can't activate Game mode in Wildlands so i like to know how the guy from the video did it.... the game menu short cut is just making a White ish flash and then nothing....

Got 2 plus Minimum FPS and same MAX fps in GOW4

Heaven Benchmark Is lagging all over the place with game mode on but gained 4 FPS :D

so.... lets just say Mæh to game mode. :D

apart from making sure most of the cpu power goes into a game than running the rest of the system i cant see what else could be happening.. paint me highly skeptical..

it uses the cloud(tm) to reverse the polarity of the pixels, which inverts the ping response between your GPU and your mousepad.

Tested Valley yesterday and performance dropped a bit. Strange. Need more testing...

From the comments I've glanced that Game Mode doesnt work for all games, it benefits the games that are "registered" with m$, namely those that are found on Xbox platform. All other games will see nominal gains. Still its nice to see m$ at least trying to fix game problems caused by its damn malware/bloatware in windows.

How do you know it's not using mind control to simulate a better gaming experience?

So, it just makes you believe you're getting more frames per second...

Try running the game in windowed mode that worked for me when i couldnt enable it.

Regarding the topic:
I'm currently in the process of compressing and converting a couple game recording files down to smaller size so I can upload them to YouTube that way we can see the difference with and without gaming mode

EDIT*
i did my best with these recordings, its been years since i recorded gameplay for upload, i just used what i had, & heavily converted them to decrease file size....i havent uploaded gameplay since before everyone with a YT account and a PC started uploading Game videos in some ridiculous hope to become a YT loser. you can see any changes with or without GM in these clips, i did the switch on Screen but it doesnt show up in the Recording.

theres a difference in the OSD stats, but in the game play (in game not in the recording i couldnt feel a change) it looks like a little short of 10FPS give or take with it enabled were added...but that number vary's widely.

WITH game Mode

With NO game Mode

I've been reading what you're posting here on TPU as well as a similar thread on OCN. I did a few of my own tests as well. Now it seems to me that the fact Joker (whom I don't really consider a very reliable source) got such a big performance increase on 3 systems, 1 on V56 and two on nvidia cards, has to mostly come from the fact that his systems weren't performing at a 100% to begin with. I got +6% in mankind Divided, and that's just from the update, regardless whether the game mode was on or off. If he gets +25% in some games I suspect all that the games mode did for him is rectify something that wasn't running well in the first place.

If you're annoyed by fps dropping below 60 fps, you can either upgrade your system or use 30 fps v-sync for a month. That way, after a month of painful training invloving throwing up and nausea every 30 minutes, your brain will adapt to seeing 55 fps as smooth as 60 fps once was.

That too.

That too.

i dont have a OCN account, just TPU. its not my posts your seeing

theres no "joker" that posted here in this thread, so im confused about what you posted above...is it from another site?

Sweet Jesus.

"You" can refer to 2nd person plural too. Neither did I quote your post.
Joker is the one whose video I posted in the OP and the one who came up with those crazy performance gains. Everything's in the OP, I tried to keep it simple enough....

Trump supporter ?

it just seemed a bit out of the blue, with no reference like you were replying here to a question asked, or a post made elsewhere....sorry it was so annoying for you.

You weren't annoying , not at all. :toast: And I admit that was a broad reference, might've confused you as well as mentioning Joker. Not everybody knows him, and if you don't then don't really bother.
