As I have been saying all along, this is why LG OLED is still king of the castle.

My Steam Deck LCD and OLED were both glossy, improved sharpness, black levels, and so on. This is how you game boys, with the lights turned off! Hell yeah! Been rocking glass monitors since QNIX 1440p imported from South Korean days. :rockout::rockout::rockout::rockout::rockout:

Well, I cannot speak for all other TVs, but BY FAR, my 55" LG OLED TV that I bought in May 2017 still rocks!!!! As recently as last week, I had a guest comment on how bright and sharp the picture was.

Yeah, nothing beats LG OLED, I seen it in the store many times and it's just stunning. It beats my phone OLED by miles. Well maybe not miles, but yeah it's better. I hope Steam Deck 2 OLED gets a LG OLED panel. That would be icing on the cake.

Yeah but don't LG make most of the display on the market but is used by lots of other company(s).

yes, they do. and to be honest ALL OLED is superior to no OLED, my point is if you want the ultimate immersion you want WOLED LG panels under glass. that's all I have been trying to say for a long time and no one ever believes me, well, now I have an article that backs it up with hardcore measurements that I am not capable of doing.

that being said, any OLED is good enough immersion for most people, but for me personally I know my next panel is going to be LG WOLED under glass. key here is under glass, many matte OLED coming out these days.

This has been known for a while now, but nice to get some data to back it up. Unfortunately for me, I can’t stand reflections and playing in the dark is straight up uncomfortable due to astigmatism acting up. As such, lowest I can go is semi-glossy. But, maybe the new treated glass option described in the article will be a good middle ground once it’s more prolific.
At least we left the old heavy AG coatings on IPS that were all the rage a decade ago behind. Those were so crunchy you could almost taste it. Made picture quality heavily distorted too.

From my personal point of view Glossy is better in perfect conditions, Matte is better everywhere else.

To me a glossy screen always looks like it has contrast booster on at all times where as matte is far more neutral.

Not actually true, of course, but technically, if what you require is neutral, accurate colors, then AG coating is better strictly by the nature of it, well, not having reflections. There are good reasons why professional displays from Eizo or NEC have AG coating and even go so far as to come with hood covers to eliminate reflections even more.

Currently Rocking some old Dell Ultras with that AG coating and have been completely happy with them for nearly 10 years.

Now I am wanting to replace them but Mini LED offerings just still arent there at the moment :(

I don't know if I could do a glassy screen on my TV or monitor. I hate any kind of light glare/reflection that shows up on any of my TVs or computer monitors.

I've got two windows and really nice shade coverings on them in my office area, but even with the shades drawn and outside light from the windows being very minimal, the glare that comes off my current monitor bothers me greatly. My eyes are very sensitive to light and I dang near live wearing my sunglasses everywhere I go from dawn to dusk, I have to keep the backlight low on my phone otherwise it gets too bright and hurts my eyes. I don't think I could do a glossy, glass finish on my stuff.

It does! And the best news is that OLEDs have developed a ton since 2017. They're much more resilient, color-accurate and far, far brighter. I bought the high-end 55-inch G3 a couple of months ago and every day I am still blown away by the image quality on this thing. This one:

I was tempted at tearing off monitor coating but I can't know if it contains polarizer.

I have a nice hp glass/gloss screen from years ago still looks amazing. I know on some screens you can peel them for a gloss look.

to be fair everyone's eyes are a little different, I personally like gaming in the dark, most nights i kick back in bed with steam deck glossy oled and lights out and really enjoy every moment. its not just the black levels, glass non-matte makes everything a little sharper too, as seen here:

Love my LG 42" C2 OLED, best monitor upgrade ever and such a great all rounder display. It continues to wow we with every new game I play on it.

Only real problem is 4k60-120 (depending on game) can be a very tall order to fill, 3080 still impresses me though, the harder I push it it's like the more it doubles down and delivers, but theres no feeling quite like being able to hit max refresh rate constantly.

That's what frame generation was designed for. But targeting 60 fps should still be reasonable for these given that they are very much quality focused despite being lightning quick panels more than suitable for competitive gaming. I've been playing Genshin Impact lately, somehow, miHoYo added 120 fps to the iOS version (when run on recent iPhone Pro or Pro Max models) but not for the Android or PC versions of the game, which still have a 60 fps cap. It's still quite playable, only wish that I could get 120... it'd be much smoother. Hopefully they'll patch in 120 fps in a future update.

Lot of end game Pioneer Kuros were Panasonic Panels :D

Never saw the Pioneers here although back in the day although we had LG models as well as a lot of Panasonic Viera line plasmas. I recall them being extremely expensive... it turns out I was just too poor. :D

Honestly plasma would still be awesome if they could do 4k and weren't such space heaters. Sadly they both are gigantic space heaters, and limited to 1080p.

Hi,
Yeah I'd have a tough time buying a gloss screen
I do like LG for sure even their cheapos have nice picture and preinstall environment settings that make it easy to find one that works best to the individual
Sound though is shit and auto needs a sound bar at minimum or surround sound setup for sure to !
