When I was shopping for a monitor I settled on Gigabyte's big offerings. I was going to get the OLED version that was 48" but the 43" Mini LED VA was like $899 on sale so I got that. I have seen OLED and would take my monitor for brightness (1000 nits). One of the things about these new panels is you can turn the contrast and saturation all the way up and use the brightness to get a display that you sometimes just spend time looking at Webb backgrounds with all of those wonderful Gases, Stars and Galaxies in the pic. Most OLED screens were matte as when I was looking but at the end of the day a monitor is almost the most subjective part of a PC.

Honestly plasma would still be awesome if they could do 4k and weren't such space heaters. Sadly they both are gigantic space heaters, and limited to 1080p.
Plasma development stopped in the 00s pretty much unfortuantely. There was a 152 inch 4k monitor from Panasonic at the end

The power draw and bad reports regarding retention etc killed it when LCDs came down in price to compete and then become cheaper than the equivalent plasma. I remember the days of selling Plasma VS LCD. Plasma was always the superior platform for the "connoisseur" but for the average joe family LCD was better/cheaper/easier.

There are some similarities of the LCD/Plasma war with the Mini LED/OLED going on currently. IF Mini LED comes down in prices I see OLED dying a similar death in the long term.

Matte monitor = best monitor. A slight improvement in anything is immediately negated any time a gloss monitor has glare just once.

As someone that uses my pc in a very ambient lit room, matte is just overall better for me. And don't even get me started on laptops lol-

Believe me I know. I made a business out of refurbishing some of the "late" models for a few years in my life. Some of the real late plasmas were less furnacey and still had insane contrast, so were worth salvaging.

Don't agree. The burn in problem is really noncomparable to what it was on plasma.

good thing its capitalism and we can have both options at checkout. I prefer the deeper blacks and extra sharpness, plus the colors pop more on glass. no matte for me.

Late Gen plasmas would be pretty good in regards to image retentions as well as long as you didnt literally abuse them, but they had the reputation of all the previous ones.

There will always be those who will go "Oh its an OLED, Itll burn in on day 366 of ownership so not gonna touch it with a 10ft barge pole"

I don't know why some people have issues with sun/other shiny objects. I just YOLO smashed my piggy bank and blacked it out with thick curtains. My display gets no direct light whatsoever, and the room lighting to monitor angle is so steep it makes no difference at all. Glossy all the way. Hate matte image distortion.

That's the difference. I've abused the crap out of my 2019 OLED and it's still perfect. My late plasma would have a "start" tattoo by now.

Yes, sample of one, I know...

Yeah, nothing beats LG OLED, I seen it in the store many times and it's just stunning. It beats my phone OLED by miles. Well maybe not miles, but yeah it's better. I hope Steam Deck 2 OLED gets a LG OLED panel. That would be icing on the cake.
I will put my Sony Oled up against LG any day...done it...for my purposes the Sony shines above.

Sony is using an LG panel in all it's OLED models to my knowledge... so... I mean I have no comment here. haha Sony does tune it very nicely I agree, but its still lG WOLED Glass at end of day, which was my point this entire time, you sir, have just won me the argument without realizing it, haha

I prefer glossy and this LG C2 is pretty darn good with not reflecting too much with being glossy.
