flashed 5970 with 7600GT bios..... Now with fix!

Lucky i found this thread

I hate that my 4870 id's as a ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series
the xfx 4870's id as ATI Radeon HD 4870
from checking the inf files

So flashed the 4870 bios
that resulted in no boot

Plugged my trusty old Geforce 5200 PCI in and flashed it back
to its stock bios

Worked great

So decided to change the SubSYS id with atiflash

from E850174B too 24401682
with
atiflash -mi 0 24401682
all went well and it reported that it changed the id fine

i rebooted
and the pc just beeped no vga card

I fitted the Geforce 5200 PCI back in
to flash it back to stock
and got the dreaded no detected Ati Card

Soldered some kynar wire to pin 1-8 boooted up
did atiflash -i it detected it
snipped wire
flashed

god know's why changing the subsys id bricked it i have been changing nvidia
subsys id's for about 8 years with 0 problems
but atleast its all good now

Hello

I have two 5970 one is MSI and XFX black edition

I used in crossfire mode . after two months yesterday i restart PC and saw monitor is standby mode ( cable plugin in MSI ) when i change monitor cable into XFX monitor on and windows going up .

==================

Now i think MSI 5970 dead or bios damaged ( because windows can't find MSI 5970 also GPU Z can't find another 5970. I opened MSI card and find bios IC and connect 1 to 8 . and used atiflash in dos but still got "adapter not fund" .

Help me please

Try the dead 5970 in another PC just to confirm that its dead and totally out of play. If you dont have a spare PC, then remove the other 5970 and just swap the slots around and see if its being detected.

Your PSU could also be going bad but we wont know that till we have more information regarding what brand or model it is.

PSU is Overclock edition 1200 W

I try but 5970 dead . do you know i can maintenance or not ?
I think GPU is fine and i need replace bios IC . it is possible ?

Thank you

If you tried it in another PC but it still doesnt work then theres not much anyone can do about it - you can try to RMA but they will charge you to fix it most likely.

MSI doesnt have lifetime warranty like EVGA or XFX has, so you will need to contact and speak with them to see what options are available to you.

Your PSU is also 5years old and since 5970s drink a lot of power from the mains it would be best to replace that, I recommend a Corsair AX860.

Sell off the remaining 5970 and buy a 780 if you can afford one.

Thanks for advice . i bought my PSU 3 months ago . so it is ok .

Thank you anyway hope i can fix them .

You dont seem to understand....

There are thousands of things soldered onto a PCB of a graphics card that could go wrong at any given time.

Ive had motherboards that have worked perfectly then mothballed them for 5 or 6 years and never worked again when taken out of the box.

If the card is dead its dead, you can waste your time changing the bios chip, but what if the problem is the VRMs or the CAPs or resistors on the card? or maybe the card got so hot maybe some of the soldering melted off a component on the PCB and broke the circuit - its not a rare occurrence.

by all means if you want to ignore what i say then you are free to waste your money and time trying to fix the card by yourself.

Unless youre an qualified electrician and know your way around a PCB of a graphics card then theres no way you'll find out whats wrong with your graphics card.

Not gonna say any more on the matter, so if you think it will work then you go ahead.

Hey! Hello! Hope somebody can answer to my question, this is how to bridge the XFX HD5970 Bios?

You know this thread is over 6 years dead, and there are 2, 8 pin chips, pin 8 and 1 you connect boot up get tool ready, i believe you do a unlock command, disconnect pins 8 and 1, flash, or get spi flasher with chip clip.
