My son has learned patience with his YouTube channel and videos, we have a 60/5 connection. Many times pushing around 7 up though. Not bad when his 1080p vids are less than 30 minutes long, at which point the size isn't too bad at all. But the longer videos obviously take noticeably longer to upload and process.

As Frag said, 14 shouldn't be too shabby...and 2X quicker than we see on any given day. My son's gotta be close to 70 videos uploaded over the past 18 months, most of which were over our Charter cable connection. Overall it isn't too much to deal with and a little patience is always a good thing to learn in this day and age. :)

Is it true that cable internet nowadays is always at least 80% of your advertised speed like DSL? This is what my local cable company now promises, and quite frankly they're not a very good one. Not long ago they'd tell you at peak usage hours it can drop as low as 50%. They say it's not shared bandwidth anymore though. Just wondering if this is all true?

I may end up keeping my CrappyLink another year at $40 for 15Mb after I drop the phone part of the service, which is the best price they say they can give me. Even if the cable company is subpar on customer service, 100Mb down and 5Mb up for $30 is a WHOLE lot better, even IF it goes up to the full $70 price after a year. They say they keep offering promos like CrappyLink used to though.

Charter in my area maintains it, not often I have a slowdown on the ISP end, and I can test almost anytime of the day and confirm at least 80% bandwidth up and down, can't say last time I noticed an issue that didn't involve an outage, hardware issue, or fiber line cut/damage. So ya, I'd say they keep that promise. Not sure what service provider you have in your area, but hopefully they can do the same if you go with em.

I pay $65/mo for 60/5 after the $5 rate increase in June after years of $60. So if you can get 100/5 for $30/mo...and later $70/mo I'd say do it and worth it. Around here, CenturyLink DSL is...well probably as-bad-as it is everywhere else.

Well, that kinda puts things in perspective. I guess cable doesn't use shared bandwidth anymore, and my local cable company's price is par for the course it seems. I just know I'll never make videos anymore unless I up my speed, because 3/4Mb is too damn slow upload rate. The new speed will also facilitate 4k streams for the new 4k TV I plan on getting.

Well got the cam last night and it does work great. Worked cool in shadowplay and overlay. One thing that sucks though is the virtual green-screen feature only works with certain apps and shadowplay is not one of them. It does work with OBS so now I will have to download and try it out. I was pretty happy with shadowplay but I really want to use the virtual green screen. Oh well. I suppose i will figure out OBS tonight.

I also learned that I'm going to have to invest in some lighting. Looks like a soft box will have to be bought. Currently lighting in the room we are doing this in is poor and I would prefer a brighter image via cam. Gonna order something today.

/edit:
Ok so when using the virtual green screen the cam runs 720p/30fps max. So I think i will skip that feature. I would prefer 720p/60 when in overlay mode.

I picked up a cheap green screen that I will mount behind my daughters seating area and I suppose I will just have to learn to add a background to her cam videos. I also purchased a fairly large softbox light kit and wall mount that I will place above the monitor and behind the cam.

I think I may tell the wife to pitch in some coin for all this stuff. lol

/edit Talked to wife last night and said maybe she should chip in and she responded, "You got this babe." So yeah...thats a no.

I don't remember having to change anything at all for Shadowplay to record TS chatter on my son's setup...pretty sure it just worked from the get-go. I can verify tomorrow evening if you'd like.

I'd double check your audio settings all around with your situation.

Might seem like a dumb question, but just to confirm, you're hearing TS audio on the same selected output in Windows?

I assume that ShadowPlay uses whatever you have set to default in Windows, and if you set the TS the same way. Maybe either more than one selection for the same output somehow or are using multiple outputs per chance? I know that's reaching...but otherwise not much is coming to mind immediately. Got anymore details? Config screenshots?

I will check. I thought I was using the same output but will look later to confirm. Thanks.

I was trying to get OBS working last night. Recording gameplay is not an issue but getting my webcam, voice and gameplay working at same time is causing issues. Everything seems to be recording...then I watch recorded video and one thing or the other is missing. I think I'm getting closer though. I think it has something to do with the main viewing area of OBS.

Was reading up on ShadowPlay last night and it seems from what their guide says that you can record in 4k 60 FPS for up to 20 minutes, is this correct? They used to limit 20 min shadow recording to 1080p.

Not sure because when looking through the settings I only see the ability to set how much space for recording. I have it at the max 10GB. Yes you can record at 4k/60fps which is what I'm doing. But you are limited to how long you can record.

With shadowplay 13 minutes of recording at 4k gave me a 5.5GB file.

I finally got OBS working great and I just recorded 23 minutes of gameplay and ended up with a 7.74GB file. In OBS I am recording at 4k 60fps but I have it scaling down to 1080p 60 fps for the video. Fantastic quality video too.

Limited as in exactly how many minutes, and I'm talking Shadow recording, or will it even do Shadow recording at 4k?

Not sure on minutes but with a 10GB cap on the recording I suppose it would be right around 20 minutes or so. It does record at 4k though without issue.

I hope I'm too late to reply, but in the last week I've learned quite a bit about optimizing editing and video recording (at least for my rig).

I record at 2560x1600 60fps. As you can imagine it takes forever to render, my 4790k took about 6 hours to render a 42 minute video. I upgraded to Sony Vegas 15 and gpu rendering was enabled which would speed up rendering times significantly. I didn't test compare with my 42 min video but did with a 3 minute video, and the rendering time dropped from around 14-15 mins to 4.
Also use shadowplay, it's the easiest thing to use, it has basically no impact on game performance, and its super light weight.

Tl;dr: I use Sony Vegas pro 15 and nvidia shadowplay. Don't use any version of Vegas earlier than that as gpu rendering with a 10xx series card won't work.

I just did a Shadowplay video and there does not seem to be a limit at all to recording length. I just played 50 minutes which ended up being a 16.8GB file size.

Yep, it gets pretty huge.

Yet another reason why I'm not fully in the SSD camp.

It should auto pick them up and it should be in the video when recorded. Ive never had it not do that.

I was talking about Shadow mode, which works via constantly caching your gameplay. Then if you play a segment that looks good to you just hit the key to save the video. That only works for up to 20 min of previous gameplay. I was asking if it works for 20 min at 4k too.

The whole point of Shadow record mode is you don't take up tons of drive space doing manual trial and error recording, and there's no recording load while playing, so you get the max FPS your rig can output.

It should auto pick them up and it should be in the video when recorded. Ive never had it not do that.

I figure it out. Thanks to @Kursah he was right. I had two different audio setups enable at once. Setting my headset/mic up for game and mic duties solved my issue. I had to go into sound properties where I had 7.1 gaming headset enabled for speakers and the same headset chat mode enabled for ...chatting. I set the headset for both speakers and chat as one device instead of two. Solved my issue. For some reason my SteelSeries headset when plugged in shows as two different headsets depending on the need. I had both enabled; one as communication device and the other for gaming sound.

Benchmark Scores I dont have time for that.
I use/used Open Broadcaster Service, it allows you to capture entire displays, specific programs, full screen applications, and even allows you to overlay a combination of any at the same time, resize etc. It'll allow you to record yourself and a game and arrange them accordingly and do the encoding real time. It even has transitions for production. The realtime encoding is pretty efficient, not to mention the software is completely free and open sourcee. I will however mention it is quite easy to use (most open source free software looks like ass and requires Linux levels of comprehension, this does not).

As for recording yourself/your daughter's self, I used a logitech C920. It does 1080@60p and has half decent hardware properties that allow you to adjust white levels etc. I started off with a Snowball iCE and then moved onto the Yeti. The Snowball is certainly good enough for most.

As for video editing software, that's where it gets a bit hmmmm. The good stuff is difficult to learn (I used Sony Movie Studio Platinum). The easy to use stuff is kinda trash (Movie Maker).

I use OBS as well.

Has anyone used the Xbox app? Doesn't it have recording? I know MS just released a stream feature for X1, but not sure about Windows.

I could check, but I don't have my MS account logged in atm... and I don't want it to (just trying to keep my history clean until the new update).
