Wii, you'll play it, she'll play it, you'll enjoy it. And it's not all jumping around like an idiot, using simple hand motions and shakes really are enjoyable when playing Mario. I used to do it when I was a kid anyways(jumping over stuff and slinging the controller at the same time) so it's just natural for me to shake the controller and get an extra spurt.

If I had to choose: PS3 vs Xbox 360 I'd do PS3. :)

I heard E is cutting you a deal with an Xbox360. Perhaps this thread have outlived its usefulness?

No. Please continue with opinions.

Ya know, I just skimmed this thread, but keep an eye on the On-Live solution...might just be perfect for what you guys want to do. Choice of games, just gotta figure out which ones interest ya, and then which ones allow coop and what-not.

Check out this recent preview, it's a good read: http://www.gamespot.com/special_fea.../image-feature/index.html?tag=topslot;thumb;4

The console for TV ships December 2nd. Just some food for thought...if ya have good internet, a decent TV, and want less mess, clutter, etc...this might just fit the bill. Again, might not because I don't know what games will support coop..and I "think" that this will allow two people to play through a single unit. At least it should! :toast:

Thanks Kursah. Unfortunately our internet sucks, so that does not factor into it.

... and BTW upgrade to the 32" TV.

My vote goes for 360. It has a massive catalog of games of all genres to play and is my favourite of the 3 current consoles (I have all 3 and I play the xbox more than the ps3 and wii combined).

wii graphics are 480p at best (and look rubbish), have no AA and get old fast (in my experience).

ps3 is a very good console, is nice and quiet, has a decent selection of games and has HD graphics output. It's also got Bluray and user replacable hard drives.

xbox 360 is my favourite because the controllers are the right size and feel (ps3 controllers feel too small for me and are too light). I also seem to prefer the graphics on the 360 versions of the games - they always look more colourful to me (this is of course subjective).

The best thing to do would be to look at the games available on the 360 and the ps3 - see if there are any exclusives for either console which you would like to play. Also go to a shop and get a feel for the controllers - are they too big/small for you or your mrs (I know the 360 controller can be too big for some hands and the ps3 can be too small).

Since you're not bothered with online I won't go into the playstation online vs xbox live argument as that's irrelivent. Both the 360 and ps3 have netflix and their own video rental/purchase online system which I do enjoy using when there's nothing on telly.

tl;dr version: My preference is the 360, although the ps3 isn't a bad choice either (you'd be happy with either). You will regret buying a wii - it will look awful on a big screen and has a very limited selection (of good games) which are the same games released over and over again.

360 for the comfy controllers and huge library.

Only thing i can recommend a wii for is homebrew, Super Smash Bros., and the weather globe thingy.

And the PS3 might be a little too intense for you old folk.

Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 are easily 100 hours of fun waiting to happen. I've played through 1 about 3 times now and love it. Mario Bros. is fun w/multiple people for sure. Mario Cart Wii is alot of fun too.

I couldn't stand the Mario Galaxies, something about the camera never being stable just gets to me. Oh and Donkey Kong Country Returns kicks ass, I have a few complaints about the motion controls, but otherwise not bad.

I LOVE my PS3. I like the Xbox 360 controller the best in general, but sometimes the ps3 controller is just easier to play with. So I have both (and with an adapter, I CAN use my XBOX 360 controller on my PS3 (or my PC)). For old people, I'd recommend the PS3 controller for sure though :p

As for the game choices for what you are looking for, idk, as I play mostly sports, shooters and Assassin's Creed I and II :p

I think you should explore this further, without the internet aspect of the console and with the additional perks of portable gaming, this might be the right fit for you and your wife. Take a look at the psp and ds. just my 2 cents

You can't go wrong either way with a PS3 or a Xbox 360. I personally love the PS3 only because I've been a PS user for the large part. Although your internet might not be the best, both consoles offer a nice collection of games in their store libraries.

If you do purchase a PS3, go ahead and grab PixelJunk Monsters. It's an extremely addictive tower defense game that WILL utilize the full 1080p resolution of your television. Check out Worms and Worms Armageddon as well, a couple of classics!

PS3, just pay the Netflix fees. X360 Gold membership fee + Neflix fee (IIRC).

Yeah i know about the PS3 been using netflix about 12 month now and still have stuff to watch and beats the hell out on demand ( comcast ) as it's much cheaper without extra fee's :). Pretty sad that is with a xbox you have to pay that membership + Netflix fee's too..

You do have to pay the membership for Xbox Live for Netflix

I LOVE my PS3. I like the Xbox 360 controller the best in general, but sometimes the ps3 controller is just easier to play with. So I have both (and with an adapter, I CAN use my XBOX 360 controller on my PS3 (or my PC)). For old people, I'd recommend the PS3 controller for sure though :p

I must say i like the xbox controller more but in the end dont like either all that much but that can be put down to mouse and KB ownage :).

I dont think Kreij is going to bet Xbox live, he mentioned that his interwebs is quite crap.
