we are looking into upgrading gateway gt4015e

I was looking into a 9800 nvidia video card plus a new power supply. with all that new stuff would I have to get a motherboard as well? which one would be the best option? if I could do that at all? I am looking to upgrade this pc with this video card. any suggestions would be helpful!

thanks!

Pre built comps are mostly crap. Build ur own, u'll be much more happy and get a lot more then what u payed for.

I am such a noob to all this not even sure where to start to be honest. if going that route would still be cheaper than buying a prebuilt pc.

From the information provided, you would not need to get a new motherboard. If you look through the specs, you will see the board has PCI-Express 16x lane (should be black from the picture I see). Also I see it uses 2 512MB sticks of ram to get the 1GB it has, I would suggest if possible picking up 2 more sticks of 512MB DDR PC-3200 ram, thus giving the system a total of 2GB. The extra ram, plus the upgraded graphics card would give the best results for increasing the gaming performance of the PC.

a 9800 card would be overkill on that machine a 9600GT would be about the max i put in it

heres what you do bro, go to a mom and pop computer store next to where you live, tell them you wanna build a computer tell them what you what to use for it...now take your time have them pick out parts for you and write them down now go on newegg or some site and get them cheap on the internet and order them bring all the parts to that mom and pop store and have them put it together for ya and watch..good learning exsperience. and get more of what you paid for

he already has the PC he can continue to use the thing no need to replace it

i can't go to a ma/pop store. being military stationed overseas at the moment. so I am learning from reading and looking at my other pc's i have in this house :)

thanks for all the great advice. I am going to the sites now looking for those options. tiger direct ships really fast for us military folks overseas. haven't tried yet with newegg. since they haven't had good deals compare to tiger direct.

i dont wanna stear this thread in diffrent direction, im also mil and noticed prices are somtimes cheaper in persay...korea.and england..if your in one of them countries its sometimes better to buy from stores..instead of online

no luck there..we are in Germany. for me to translate or switch over is a pain in the butt. so I would rather just order on the net or go through aafes.
