Ghost Recon: Wildlands - Is it worth it?

Thinking of getting Ghost Recon Wildlands. Seems like a really cool game, but also pretty demanding. Can anyone give me a mini review of your gameplay experience?

My future PC, where I'll be buying the game on is over the minimum standards for this game according to steam, but will it run well on high or ultra settings? My main PC specs are:

- Intel Core I5 7400 @ 3.0 GHZ
- 8GB of RAM
- 2TB of storage
- Geforce 1060 6GB Graphics Card

It should run, right?

I can stream and run it on my FX8350 - on a GTX 1080. Not sure what you'll get on High or Ultra, the game is pretty CPU intensive. It is definitely fun, i ended up getting it on PS4 and PC. A lot more fun with PEOPLE than the AI. Oh and play on "realistic setting" makes it a little more challenging.

I got it recently and have not regretted it, even just for sp. With a 7970 I knew I'd have to run Med settings, but it looks better than I'd anticipated. I get 43 FPS average on the in game bench, and don't see any lag or stutter.

My only gripe so far with sp is the parachute is kinda useless because you can't base jump with it and if you switch to passenger to use it from aircraft the AI won't automatically take over as pilot. Thus you can easily die from a heli dropping on top of you. You pretty much have to use it from a plane, and they are far more seldom found due to the mountainous terrain and need for a runway. They're also less practical, since helis have mounted guns that often come in handy.

As for settings for your spec, you won't be able to touch Ultra. You'd get like 5 FPS, maybe 20 max if you drop draw distance quite a bit. About 35 FPS on Very High, but I'd go for High, which will net you more like 38, and probably 40 plus if you lower draw distance to Med.

LOL, finally got the chance to enable Tier One mode. Convoys are hilarious, the gas tankers and especially Coms trucks are like tanks. I follow them for miles and they keep going and going even after both escort vehicles are toast. Doesn't matter if you steal a rebel truck with mini gun, they're like the Energizer Bunny.

No UBi open world games are worth it, once you've played one of them.

.... Maybe that's a bit harsh :p I actually like a lot of their games, but not these.

This one IMO is well worth it. It's quite a big game world, and there's a lot to do in it. Never a dull moment. The terrain alone is incredible. Everything from salt flats, to swamp lands, to rugged mountains. I also think they did the mine tunnels pretty well. I don't get the hate on their open world games, which pretty much most of their's are anymore.

I'll try to be openminded as the price drops.

It's more like that I don't like their "brand" of open worlds... no matter who makes it. I like sandboxes, random events, and quirky AI mechanics. Emergent gameplay, etc. Especially hate the collectible bonanza Ubi is known for. Hate it even more from people who copy them, like Bioware now. At least Ubi has the excuse of making straight up action games. But Bioware makes RPGs and it's even more shallow there.

The only Ubi game I like that's somewhat new is the Trials series. Would love to see another Prince of Persia too, instead of yet another AC sequel. I don't even think there's been one this whole "generation". Would also like a Beyond Good and Evil sequel. If I'm gonna play action, this is higher quality imo.. even with the smaller levels.

I think most would agree whom have played them both that ME Andromeda is far less compelling than this game. I also feel you really have to call out EA for Bioware's latest stuff, because we all know it's really them that stifle their creativity. It's also because of EA that Bioware pretty much lost all their best devs. I'm also skeptical whether bringing Casey Hudson back will do much good, mostly because I don't trust EA to let him do things right.

Yeah true, I do have my gripes about the AI. They often can't get into proper position to take out an enemy you've synced them to. It can be really annoying when you're waiting and waiting, often well past the most opportune times to sync, while one or two of them keep losing their target. A lot of times they won't even respond to manually trying to coax them where to go to get a good shot. However at other times they pull off miraculous shots without even being anywhere near where they need to be to make them, so it evens out. Not immersively, but evens just the same.

All that said, I find 99% of the AI annoyances are related to where the player positions themselves, so these situations can mostly be avoided with just a little careful attention to practical vantage points. Sure there's also their tendency to get stuck, or not board a chopper, or for some reason hop out of a car just before you take off. Those problems however are minuscule due to their tendency to warp to you whenever embarking in a vehicle large enough to hold them all.

The solo campaign definitely has it's quirks. but I'm finding them much more tolerable than I thought they'd be.

I bought it when it came out and played for a few hours with a friend; was fun imo, repetitive open world type game but that's the stuff I like. Driving was bad but also fun because you could just throw cars down mountains no problem etc.

I would play through it from scratch if anybody else wanted to make a 4 man TPU group or something since I never got to finish.

the only part that bugs me is when you go multiplayer and you ask for help with a particular mission but everyone goes straight for endgame. opening up parts of the game that stay open back in your single player. id say its best if you know someone or a group to play the game through with.

I'm on Tier 33 now, so it's switched to Extreme mode. I have all Rebel skills maxed, and this is where they come in quite handy. I'm finding Spotting is quite useful since on Extreme you have no orange clouds to indicate unmarked enemies. Calling in rebels and raining down mortars, as well as using diversions is generally plenty sufficient to overcome any base if things go sideways on you and you have to go loud. It's especially safe if you find a good hiding spot to use the drone from, like inside a concrete pipe.

I'm not really doing defend the emitter missions anymore, since I have all reb skills maxed. Last one I did was in a eastern level 3 province. The emitter was set in what looked like a parking lot of a L shaped motel. Waves of armored vehicles, helis and foot troops came. I died and had to retry several times. I finally got it by staying prone in the front corner of the parking lot where there was heavy L shaped concrete to stay protected. I just kept taking out helis with the Desert Tech HTI BDC, calling in rebels, and mopping up fot troops with my assault rifle.

Now I have only level 4 and 5 provinces left, and am finishing up the level 4 ones. I'm kinda cheesed that they apparently tweaked the EMP so that convoy vehicles don't stay stopped by it anymore. I've sufficed with an armored vehicle drop, taking out escort vehicles from afar with the Desert Tech HTI BDC, then going after the target vehicle with the AV's mini gun and ramming it. Once you get good at the ramming they can usually be stopped without going on a marathon demo derby.

I'm still a bit upset they couldn't even get the GoTo command to work well, which would have made using your squad a lot more effective, but it is what it is. Still having a lot of fun, I just wish when I see this new DLC coming out they'd consider fixing a few main things they left broken in solo play.

BTW, anyone know how Diversion actually works? I can see a spot appear where I place it, but I don't see any rebel troops show up there, or any smoke, explosions, or other diversion element happen there, so what gives? Is this another broken game feature?

Just finished the campaign and it was pretty good. I'm a little ways into Fallen Ghosts though and despite being at level 30, I see no option to go into Tier One mode. Is this a huge oversight on their part, or am I missing something? I don't recall but I may have started Fallen Ghosts before activating Tier One mode in the main campaign. Just the fact that there's no Tier One Mode tab available when playing Fallen Ghosts makes me think they didn't include it though. Most I think would play the DLC after the main campaign, and I feel most also would if anything prefer more challenge as they progress.

So do you know if Fallen Ghosts and Narco Road are playable in Tier One Mode erixx?

I have to disagree with you there many nearly all the dev who worked on ME prior to Andromeda are still there at Bioware working on anthem, so I'm not getting this "lost their best devs." Yes, a handful of high profile names have departed the company but on a team upwards of 250 people, I mean seriously. You can't throw all blame on EA and absolve Bioware with what happened with ME:A. Especially since they've released quite a few titles under the EA umbrella.

Dear Frag Maniac, I found your comments amazing and educative, yet I have no idea about the game's little features and I was falling asleep.... I hope that someone will answer you.

Meanwhile, I found https://www.vg247.com/2017/07/04/ghost-recon-wildlands-tier-1-mode-guide-missions-xp-rewards/

They say this: ''You can activate and deactivate Tier 1 mode when the fancy takes you, and your progress will be saved."

That's just how to enable it in the main campaign.

It's OK, I found out it's not as bad as I'd first assumed. There appears to be no Tier One Mode in the DLC, but the player levels go beyond 30. Plus there's some pretty challenging missions I found, like trying to extract a rebel vip prisoner while Los Extranjeros troops keep coming (elite Unidad squads), and a chopper rains rockets down on you.

I was referring to the devs whom left the team working on Mass Effect that pertain to the story part of it. I mean I think everyone that knows anything about ME anymore knows Andromeda was cobbled together by people with much less creative talent. It also suffered lots of bad animations and glitches, many of which weren't fixed.

And yes I can throw all blame on EA, because they're why those better writers left, and the game was rushed. They set it aside and tried doing a bit of damage control hiring Casey Hudson back, but the real proof they learned their lesson will be in how much control they give him, how much polish they allow the animators, and how much QA testing they do.

I been told it's pretty good how ever they locked the game down from community mods and stuff so no expansion unless UBI sell it. So i personally would get bored and be left waiting on UBI.

I don't know Wildlands didn't stick for me. I think as a SP game, nah, not worth, repetitive, and the ubisauce that we have seen two dozen times. As a co-op multiplayer game, and if played at high(est) difficulty, then yes, its fun. No sense of realism though and this does kill the immersion at times. Its just GTA with ghillie suits.

If they had adopted the 'pace' of The Division, (and not the RPG-style health bars)... this could have been 100% amazing all over the place. Now its just generic third person action.
