Godfall is one of the launch titles for Sony's PlayStation 5 to show off the new platform's raytracing capabilities. We took a closer look at the PC port of the game and tested it with a wide selection of graphics cards from both AMD and NVIDIA, using Full HD, 1440p, and 4K.

game looks like fun...for 12 year old or younger audience.

RTX 3090 quite a lot faster than RTX 3080 in this game if for ex. in AC:Valhalla, Watch Dogs: Legion difference is within ~5fps.

Just pretty looking environments, the world itself looks rather empty and lifeless.

4 fps for 5500xt on 1080p, oh boy. It's not even 1 full year since it released!

And beaten by a card with less VRAM to boot. Talk about adding insult to injury.

I'm unsure but it's likely this is because of the platform used. This card is supposed to be using PCIe 4.0, which neither the processor nor board used support.

That said, and due to the memory amount present in that card, i don't think it would perform that much better even if it were running on a platform with PCIe 4.0 support.

Lets face it: nobody below 5700XT/2070S and 60+ FPS wishes is going to play this title on highest settings as the performance is abysmal. And when you will lower the details down a notch, suddenly the limited 3/4 GB VRAM won't matter and you will probably barely notice any changes in quality ...

That 3090 performance jump over 3080 is insane compared to typical games. What's the cause? VRAM?

Seems unlikely, the RTX 3070 only starts to get ahead of the 2080 Ti at 4K, despite the games excessive VRAM usage thanks to AMD getting their mitts on it.

I know, but I can't figure what else could cause a nearly 30% performance jump for the 3090 over the 3080.

Oh for sure, very odd. BTW... BigMack of Mad Onion/Futuremark forums fame?

I am actually very unimpressed with the graphics, considering the resource cost.

Damn, my poor 1070 consistently in these newer titles can barely get 30 fps at 1440p. Sad days indeed.

I think that's a CPU limitation issue there. This isn't the first time I'm seeing these new Ampere cards suck at 1080p compared to Turing.

You complete me:toast:, the game is hack, slash and flash worthless eyecandy modern platformer, disgrace for keyboard and mouse PC gamers.

I’d be curious to see vram usage at low and medium graphics to see how it scales

A bad new console launch title???..well this would be first in the history of console launch titles! /s

@W1zzard Thanks for taking the time to look at this.
I could have used a good ARPG this December when I (hope I) will have some time on my hands. It seems this ain't it.

Do you plan to test this game in future CPU reviews? I was pretty interested because it recommends a 3600x, which i think is the highest of any game? But now looking at these results, i dont think it would be that useful. Seems the GPU will always be the bottleneck.

I have tested GodFall with 3080&5950X in 5k (5120x1440) with epic settings on internal benchmark of the game, the result is 57.4 FPS for the average.

The utilization of the CPU is minimal for this game (average less 10%)

The average frequency of 3080 is 1890Mhz (more or less).

I think PCIe Gen 3 is the problem for TPU rare results like 3080 and 3070 behind 2080Ti on 1080p.

By the way this game is badly optimized.

Greetings to all!!!
