Well after some 4 months with an ATI (HIS 850XT ICEQ Turbo II ' 610/660 which is going on e bay at weekend) I have just got meself a 7900GT that came at the default 450 core and 620 memory. This is an amazing little card (I say little because it is a drawf in comparison to the double slot 850), so far I have just used the "Coolbits find max overclock" which in my experience is a little on the conservative side and she is already running at 575/800 fully stable on stock cooling which looks pretty feeble! I have heard how power efficient these things are but I mean REALLY feeble! see my signature for first bechmarks.

I am gonna leave her at this for a couple of weeeks to "bed in" and then I will start to push her to see what she can really do on stock. This card is identical to the 7900GTX but with less memory and lower clocks (the voltage is lowered) so it will be interesting to see on such low volts what she can do before a voltmod but for that I reckons I will have to upgrade the cooling.

So far, so good and highly recommended and for those in the UK, I got a really good deal on her too!

just about 1.5'd your raw power and added shader 3.0 nice choice.

As long as you like it. Personally I'll stick with my X850XT, it has all the stuff I'll need for a while. And when games start to lag? I turn down settings, overclock, or just play a different game. I won't have to buy another GPU for a while (unless I do something stupid :p.).

Was more than happy with mine too, in fact I have got to say it was probably the best card I ever owned, I had it clocked at 610 core and 650 memory and it flew but i actually paid just £27 more for the 7900GT than I did for the 850 a short while ago and this dont fly.....it rockets!

Its a shame to see people move over to the dark side :p

I acutally turned to the dark side by switching to ATI. I can't stand Nvidia anymore, slow hunks of overpriced junk IMHO. But for only 27 more, why not go for it over an X850?

In my case I spose you would say moved back, I have owned 7 graphics cards and the Green side is winning 5-2!

TBH I thought the same for the last couple of years but I do believe with the advent of the G71 core they have moved the Game on, for example, my new card in the deal I got cost me £20 more than yours would have cost me at that particular store, now thats got to be value for money for this performance?

that 7900 is gonna fry without RAMsinks, also feel those little ICs on the bum of it, notice how HOT they are? yes, 80c+ typically, so put a RAMsink on them too. Dear god dont ask me to explain it or i'll be here all night, please just do it or you run a high risk of destroying her :(

Thanks for the advice, didnt think of that, I think I will drop memory clock down a hundred or so until I get some.....cheers

Yeah, you defanitly got the best value for the money. The 7900 does seem to be the best chip since the Geforce 3, the only reason I didn't get the 7900 GT was because my X1800 was on sale for $185. I got burned on the Geforce FX5900, ever since I have switched to ATI. If Nvidia goes back to the standard they set with the Geforce 3, I will be going back to them.

Don't forget the blue side... for a while, when I didn't have much money, I had Intel GMA graphics:cry: then...money came raining down (on my parents)!! Red side I became!

Red side (ATI) is like Bush (you might not like him)
Green side (nVidia) is like Kerry (stretched out chin)
Blue side (Intel GMA Integrated) is like Nader...no one likes him at all. Period.

For a while, I played on my cousins comp who had a 5900 Ultra, was really good, I liked it. But when I had a choice between nVidia and ATI at the store, something drove me to go ATI. I picked up nVidia first, but my stomach turned, and when I chose ATI...wow...

Im in the black army now. I have always used ATI (since GeForce2) and have loved it. But I got a couple of XFX 7600GS to run in SLI (no fans) in a really quiet comp.

Honestly I dont think anything beats a X850XT for $135. I think it will go down in history as one of the GREAT values of all times:rockout: ...

lets see i had sis integrated graphics at one point and as for the rest starting with a rage pro they've all been ati.
freaky for me ati's winning 17/1 hmm I think that's the very defenition of fanboy lol.

Show us more pics! I love seeing what people are doing to their comps.

I am doing the cooling tube today and the fans, Il post some this afternoon.

K, can't wait to see it.

I'm one of few who can say their totally unbiased :D I started with an AGP 8MB SiS card, then a GF2 MX 64MB (Terrible, never gave me anything but probs) Switched to an elsa gladiac GF2, terrible as well nothing but probs. Then come the hercules 3d prophet 4500 64mb, great card. then cone a radeon 9000 when the legendary skt A come to shine, later I switched to a 9600Pro, dear god I loved that card, FDD modded it and it flew at 515\750 :D then I killed it with a slip of a soldering iron doing a vgpu vmod :( enter the 5700ultra, wasnt as bad as the other cards but i couldnt play some games that were just awesome and funny like theme hospital so i didnt like it for that. then come the 9800pro  then when 939 come along x800xl, x850xt and finally as it is now 6800gt. so yeah, you cant say ive not given each side a fair standing :p

All the nvidia cards i had didnt work. I had a Geforce 2 which I RMA'ed like 12 times. They decided to switch it to a Riva TNT2 M64 which was crappier but worked. After that I got a 9700Pro which beated the crap out of anything when it was released. After that I looked for an easy to unlock upgrade. A x800Pro was the best bargain I could find. THe lack of SM3 wasnt that much of a problem since a 6600Gt isnt capable of maintaining good FPS while using it.
So overall I like ATi better. Dunno why there is something about Nvidia that makes me think of a boss making to much money or something.. :p

Did'nt think the 6600GT had SM3.0? it only came with the 6800 series?
