Good highend card that can go with a E4400 at stock?

I was thinking, should i upgrade my motherboard all together?, i can afford a 780i and what not(i have a job and no bills to pay) I could get a 780i or a Asus P5Q Pro with a E8400 and maybe a 4870 or somthing.

Well in that case, get an e8400/500/600 (whichever is best val for money).

And get an Asus P5Q pro like you said, then gfx card is upto you really. depends on your budget and personal preference.

Hard to decide, i have no problems with my 680i mobo so it would save cash.

And OC your CPU just do it on stock voltage. Like Intel Fanboys would say we don`t OC intel is selling downclocked CPUs.

you would rather buy a new motherboard for about $200 to support a 45nm cpu instead of just updating your BIOS for FREE and making it support 45nms, once again, for FREE?

If your not OCing then there is literally no point in getting a new board if your current one supports 45nm with a BIOS update.

Well, that's actually right, i am not a computer enthusiast, i just build PC's for gaming(i just want to play most of my games on high including ones that aren't out yet). I find no point in paying alot of cash for something like an Alienware when i can build it for cheap even if i dont tweak all the time, i still enjoy building my own system and upgrading it,not OCing doesn't make me less knowledgeable then anyone else(nor does BIOS updates). I have cash because i work for it, and i have no shame in spending the lot of it on PC hardware. Also, a motherboard upgrade is for more things i never said i wanted to upgrade mobos because of 45nm support, i have a 680i chipset and its showing its age. I could careless about benchmarking and tweaking all the time(which is why i stated i am not a PC enthusiast). But i enjoy building computers for gaming, so no thank you i won't be buying a prebuilt. I like upgrading and playing games, if that not a computer entusiast, i am not going to cry over it.

I'd do that the q6600's are cheaper and the only difference between them and the yorkfields is less cache and the fabrication of them, at least thats all I can think of.

The cheapest option is to just overclock your CPU and get a 4850!

If your not going to clock get a 8800GS,8800GT,HD3870.

If you are going to overclock to get a 3+ ghz chip, then get a HD4850/9800GTX+ or better.

Its not that bad. Just get a USB flash drive or floppy drive and its easy and has almost a 0% failure rate. Plus it will be worth it A stock e8400 is more than enough!

You can flash from windows tho.. Ive done it a few times on my Biostar 740g and Foxconn P35A and it was fine.

I would recommended it to go with USB or CDROM, windows is a shaky thing.

I agree. I tried a BIOS update through windows & got a power cut, had to RMA my MB.

Never again Windows...never again.

Just stick with the floppy or USB flash drive.

just get a 88/98gt or the 4850, you could waste more money if you wanted on cpu, mobo or higher end gpu but in truth you wont see the benefit of the faster sysstem on your screen.

i cant understand why you wont clock your proc tho, i would bet it can hit 3ghz+ before you would need more than vid.

In life there is plenty of stuff we don't like but it doesn't mean you should avoid it. So with your logic you should buy a new car when the fuel runs out opposed to refilling the fuel? You were going to buy a new cpu, mobo and graphics card just the same after all.
If I were you I'd oc the E4400 to 3 or 3.2Ghz, and if all works out well I'll buy just the graphics card. Look at how much money you'd have saved!

I have a worse processor on my desktop - the E4300 stock 1.8Ghz. I overclocked it to 3.0Ghz and coupled with an 8800GT it gives an extremely good performance, I fly through all games even Crysis on high DX9 settings.
