Good time to upgrade the GPU ?!

Nvidia stops production RTX 3080 12 GB due to falling prices

Makes sense.

So many people cried about lack of VRAM on the 3080. Nvidia took advantage of stupid people by adding 2 more GB (which really isn't going to make a difference) and gave the new 3080 12GB a slight bump in performance. Then they tack on $300-400+ and let stupid people gobble them up for that extra 2GB of VRAM and around 5% performance gain over the 3080 10GB. Win for Nvidia.

Now that things have officially quieted on the GPU end, why waste resources on a GPU that's being priced to the point of the 3080Ti.

It wasn’t that expensive. 3080 12 GB was a bargain compared to 3080 Ti and about same performance, maybe 0.5% less. For that kinda performance and more vram it was worth the 200$ more compared to 3080 vanilla, 3080 Ti 99% of time was overpriced on the other hand.

All prices I saw put the 3080 12GB $300+ over the 10GB models. When you could buy at 10GB for $1000-1100, the 12GB were (if you were lucky) starting at $1250, but usually closer to $1400. The 3080Ti were usually around $1600 at the time. So, yes, the 12GB models were that much more expensive over the 10GB for a while.

If you feel that an extra $200/300/400 was worth the extra 5% over the 10GB model, that's good for you. Enjoy it. Nvidia sure did enjoy folks willing to fork over that extra coin.

Not for me. It’s just 5%-8% and the 2 GB extra vram are only useful for 4K gamers, I don’t think it will benefit 1440p gamers like me anytime soon. What I know for certain is, I don’t like the 3080 with just 10 GB I would’ve probably bought the 3080 12 GB now, not with the atrocious prices back then. Luckily I didn’t need to buy anything because i found a better deal right before the mining boom happened.

Just sold my 6700XT and for 40 USD more i've got a Sapphire RX 6800 Nitro+ OC brand new (sealed)

i need to go for the 3070 i guess
