GT240 550MHz 1gb ddr3 vs GT710 950MHz 1gb ddr3
In 3d mark benchmark got gt240 much better score and fps.
GT710 is faster in theory and much newer, how is that possible?

Shouldn't matter since they're both obsolete.

geforce has the following numbers, example: 610. 6 is for series and 10 for the type of the series. type go from 10 to 90. the type number matters the most. if you get a 10 type, you will get low performance. 40 for example is a bit better. from 50 you go into low gaming, 80 an 90 is high end. Ti stands for slightly better version. except for the 1080 ti at the moment which is 30 percent better than the normal 1080. notice, 10 is series and 80 is type. so when you have a 710, vs a 240, it is obvious that the 240 was way stronger in comparison at its launch then the 710. also technology is developing. the 240 is baked at 40nm and the 710 at 28nm. so the 240 may do a little better, but will probably use more power to do the same. hope this clarifies it a bit.

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)
Why is it faster in theory? Clearly its slower....at least in that benchmark. Cloudgate is also a pretty low end test. What does Fire Strike results look like?

Well thankyou for such a complete answer, I learned a new thing here.
But I have two PC one for movie playback on video projector and its Full HD not higher than that and the other pc I use for game play and its all simple games like command and conquer / starcraft II / age of mythology
So which card should I use for video playback and which for my old simple games ?

Id test in fire strike, a 1080p benchmark, and see what happens...

40 vs 10.

the 710 will use less power though

Because GT 240 was a low mid end product, GT 710 is an entry level product which is below low mid end, it's basically for PC's that don't have an IGP, it's not designed for games, nor is the GT 240 but being in a slightly higher class of products it may well perform "slightly" better, regardless none are any good for any kind of gaming and probably on par with an Intel HD IGP, if I had the time I would look at the core config of each to see why at lower clocks the GT 240 had better performance, I'm assuming it has slightly more ROPS/TMP's and yea I did have time, I just googled both and it seems that the GT 240 has double the texture mapping units (32 compared to 16 on the GT 710) giving it a slightly better pixel and texture rate which is why it performs better even though it is 3-4 generations behind... :) you're welcome :toast:

I will be rude... (yea I am drunk a bit)

During my eight grade my teacher of physics told me such grading scheme.

It is in between... shitty and very shitty... I completely agreed with the methodics (We were judging Trident 3D Image 9750 card actually)

GT710
Fire strike resulted only 3-4fps and 15-16 fps in physic.
But GT240 could not even start the test.

But I think 240 is a better card even if it's much older.
