This market is predatory as hell. Video cards are not to be kept for long as a possession. Especially when 471 sq.mm chip can be shrink-ed at 230 sq.mm for next gen. Same as GTX 980 400 sq.mm replaced by GTX 1060 200 sq.mm. Now 1080 Ti is more like GTX 980 in that regard. It is not 600 sq.mm. They can still shrink it, and call it 70 tier and price it accordingly even at 230 sq.mm but it would be unheard of so far.

One could day that for 1080p a single 970 would suffice. 970 is beyond overkill

My 1x gtx 970 is doing qhd 1440p well but on AAA games it often stays sometimes under 60Hz

If you are looking at price then the pro is a much better board than the ranger

http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/7592/asus-z170-pro-intel-motherboard-review/index7.html

Intel alpine ridge usb 3.1
3866 ram support vs 3400 on ranger
good sound unlike 892 on the z170-a, and the ranger audio has popping issues with the driver installed
Thicker pcb than the z170-a (and possibly the ranger)

Seriously dude, as an owner i would advise against the ranger, its a workable board, and can oc a cpu ok, i just think its more a dressed up z170-a than a stripped down M8Hero, and around its price there are much better options

Not worth almost 3x the price though is it? maybe 100 at max.

I must agree fully, Nvidia has no competition right now apart from their mid tier cards where the RX 480 barely holds off the 1060.

Yep, and because of the competition, the GTX 1060 is a pretty good buy at $240. But the next jump up to the 1070 is $400, that's a huge jump I'm not keen to pay.

Fuck that ... too much money.

I still use PNY 770 2GB XLR8 OC, perfectly happy with it. Even GTA 5 , Skyrim SE, BF4 all at 2560x1440.

I'm ok with my 670 because i am at 1080P... 1440P would make me cry with a 670, which is barely slower than a 770 lol...

Yeah the Ranger has issues which most likely could be solved with a bios revision.
The other board has no where close to 3x the cost worth in components however ;)

I voted NO, because I just don't like what Nvidia has done with their Founders Edition pricing, Telemetry, Maxwell 3.0 refresh, and other shenanigans.
Also, there is the matter of what Vega will bring, and at what Price To Performance ratio?

But here would be the crucial question for me if I were in the market for another Nvidia card:
How soon after the 1080Ti is released and sold will Nvidia then unleash Volta?

buying or deciding on a card or any hardware as a matter of fact is abit or it is like "ill wait till this" "ill wait till that" "rumor says its gonna be this" , they the companies release hardware in such a way its always less then 6 months untill they release the next best thing, it can be hard to decide on any hardware without feeling like your getting a bad deal because they release them to close to each other...and they come up with the most stupid names to make you pay more, such as "founders" , wtf is that...

Pretty much what im saying here , you can wait all want because they release so often the difference between models is so marginal. Unless you go from a 7 series to a 10 , you can really see a diff if you are chasen fps.
I learnt this from upgrading from a MSi 980ti to a MSi 1080 X seahawk , i found little differnce in BF and it only used one 8 pin connector instead of a 6 and 8 pin together. your better off waiting a couple of series before you see any major change.

What game are you playing, Solitaire?
Most intensive games I am currently playing are GTA V, BF4, Skyrim SE, Farcry 4. I play all of these with 2560x1440 fine. I don't use much AA or AF and I tweak all settings. Obviously not going to run Ultra on anything released after BF3.
