Guide to Radeon X800/X850 bios modding

That's a very nice overclock ;)

I'd be worried. That might create a blck hole -_-

Basically in the two lines of fuse data in the screenshot you posted, where the 'D' and the 'E' are, there need to be 'F's to be able to unlock them.

example.png

This is an example of the fuse data indicating unlockable pipelines.

Your fusedata just shows that the pipelines are locked at a hardware level, and not in the bios. It's all luck of the draw, the only cards that have a 100% unlock rate are the sapphire x800gto2's.

Infrared,

So Mine in post #693 is a definate no go as well.????

Being as there is a 7 in there and its not all F's.

Thanks

PaddyTB

After reading here for a few days, I'm assuming my 850pro will not be unlockable to the 16 pipes. However, if, by chance I am wrong.....here are the atitool stats. Thanks in advance for any help and/or suggestions!

From what I have read on this subject, your card is good to unlock to 16 pipes.

On the CONFIG_DIE_FUSES it's the 4th value from the right you need to have as an F, yours is.

On the CONFIG_SUBSTRATE_FUSES it the last value on the right you need to have as an F, yours is.

I do believe you are good to go.

My my my..... that is interesting.

Thankyou GLD.

I don't have a floppy drive so I'll need to organise a boot CD

and also sort out what Bios to use.

and get my head around the correct procedure.

and ????

a little research is in order.

Thanks again

Definitely your card will unlock to 16 pipes (R420/R423 are the only cores which can unlock with fuses different than F's in the DIE register but they also have two types ;) ). But with these fuses you can't use X800PRO BIOS with 16 pipes (or you can use it but it will not unlock the last quad). The "normal" X800PRO VIVO which can be unlocked has DIE_FUSES EFF7FFFF and GB_PIPE_SELECT 2724. Your has FFF7FFFF and 6E48. It will unlock the all 16 pipes if you use X800XT or X800XT PE BIOS. Start with X800XT (500/500MHz) and find the max. core/memory clocks with ATITool. If your card can handle X800XT PE speeds (520/560MHz) then flash with X800XT PE BIOS.

To avoid using of floppy use my Automated Flash Utility for X800PRO AGP on bootable CD (iso image). All needed to flash is described in the "Flash Instructions" file together with the flash utility.
The utility contains the following options:
1. Flash to X800PRO 16 pipes (will not work with your card)
2. Flash to X800XT
3. Flash to X800XT PE
4. Rollback to X800PRO (12 pipes)

Download link: http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/332 (there are another utilities in the package but you need only X800PRO VIVO AGP Flash Utility).

Success and let us know how your card perform after the unlock and what are the max clocks for the core/memory with the standard cooling (I will recommend you ATI Silencer 5 rev.2).

Finaly please save and post here your original X800PRO BIOS.

Thanks very much dolf.

I will give this a go over the weekend.

Great info.

Stay tuned

;)

Ok dolf,

I have got 515/518 as max overclock (have not flashed bios yet)

I will flash to Flash to X800XT (option 2) and report back

:)

Ok here is my original Bios.

I got it through ATI tool.

Thats the right way to get it, yes ?

Hi,

I have problemes after flashing my Asus X800pro to XT. Flashing was no problem, and for a while it workt great. But after updating my drivers (Cat 6.8).... my screen turned in to a blur. Whit stripes etc etc.
I have tried a different XT bios files and Cat drivers (6.8), now it only happens while running atitool and sometimes at startup i have these blury white stripes. After a reboot its gone (sometimes), what to do?

Sometimes it happens when using ATITool (the newest versions) and very new drivers. Uninstall the ATITool and try RivaTuner or ATI Tray Tools. The other variant is to flash X800PRO 16 pipe BIOS or to revert to 12 pipes for testing of the quad.

Hi dolf, maybe you can help me out here. I have a problem after flashing my ati x850 pro vivo card. all the steps went well. all pipes are open and flashed it to the x850 xtpe bin. but after 10-15 minutes of playing some 3D games. it freezed up. plz help... O, i forgot to backup my OEM bios :(

ati x850pro vivo agp card with samsung 1.6 memory

Ati tool give me for the fuses :

Active Pipelines 16
Default GPU Clock 540.00 MHz
Default Mem Clock 590.00 MHz
CONFIG_DIE_FUSES 0xFFFFFFFF
CONFIG_SUBSTRATE_FUSES 0xFFFFFF9F
CONFIG_ROM_FUSES 0xA60
GB_PIPE_SELECT 0x3FE4

If you have single slot cooler it is absolutely normal. But you didn't notice your fan to stop which means that you have dual slot cooler. The dual slot cooler works with XT / XT PE BIOS but both has only 13% fan up to 80C. I have moded X850XT/PE BIOSes with fan speeds like on PRO BIOS. Your card freezes because of the heat and overclock more than your cooler can handle. Flash it with X850XT (not PE) BIOS or X850PRO 16 pipes until you upgrade your cooling system.
You can use my Automated Flash utility for X850PRO with all needed flash options on it. Download link: http://savefile.com/projects/738578

Your original BIOS has been the same like in my utility because all X850PRO VIVO AGP cards uses it.

I was thinking about my overklock...

I have managed to open my pipes and actually overklock it up to around 570/580.
As some x800 series have 1.6 memory it shouldn't be so harmfull but since I have 2.0 memory should I lower the klock on the mem?

I think that you can use X800XT (500/500MHz) with the stock cooling or X800XT PE (520/560MHz) BIOS if you have more serious cooling solution (ATI Silencer 5 rev.2 or other).

Whoo !

You guys are tops.

16 pipes. :toast:

Workin great.

Thankyou GLD and extra special thanks to DOLF.

Dolf that flashing utility is an absolute no brainer, very simple to use. Fantastic!

The Maxcore / Max mem came to 517 / 523.
I wont be going to the XT PE bios.

At one stage it got to 80 degrees. So with summer on the way, I think it would be futile
to try improve the cooling to get the higher clocks.

I am VERY happy with the going from 12 to 16 pipes.

3d mark 2006 went from 1602 => 1975 :cool:

Thanks

PaddyTB

Unfortunately it seems that you will remain with only 8 pipes  .

My Sapphire X800GT 256M is unlocked 12 pipes already. but I am not sure is that a R480?
the CONFIG_DIE_FUSES is 0xEFF3BFFF, and CONFIG_SUBSTRATE_FUSE is 0xFFFFF61F.

BTW, I actually wanna softmod this card to FIRE GL, but R423 is not supported to do this by Rivatuner, what should i do?

Ok but there´s no other way to activate the pipelines?, open the card restoring the laser cut or something?

This is R423 for sure.

This is R423 for sure.

so.. is that possible to flash the R430 BIOS or someone else which supported by Rivatuner(I mean, to softmod as a FIREGL, coz R423 can't do that:()? If yes, how to do that?

Ive done some searching & seems that my HIS x800gto is diff from a lot. I see the proper fuse code in ati tool & also have the 6pin pwr connector. I did dump the bios & seen that it said the 6pin didnt have pwr.

Any opinions?
