Alright i have deside for now to keep the cards i have now after all comments and begin to save up in sted.

X58 is getting old and soner or later mobo or some thing else is gonna give up, but it is no secret that i am very fond off this platform properly because i have had it for so long and have served me for the longest time of all the pc i have had.

And with the cpu i have now i think cpu wise i can hold on up to two more years before i finnaly say goodbey to my dear old X58 setup unless i deside i cant live with the gfx i have now. Only time can tell...

Dude, don't listen to the haters.
-Go to ebay, look up the Xeons x56xx series. They are dirt cheap. You can get a 6 core for like $60.
-Overclock to 4.xGHz.
-2x 1080Ti (Well... maybe not)
-Profit.

Nehalem class CPU's still have quite some grunt when overclocked. And boy they overclock. Considering how cheap they can be bought, it's certainly an interesting choice even today. And they come with triple channel memory controller. Just expect some issues finding triple channel memory kits. There aren't many around because triple channel was a very odd number of modules. Literally. :)

Worlds biggest X58 fanboy here, the above build ^^^^^^^^ would be a waste of money and performance too.

the glass ceiling with X58 and other platforms is more than a rumour especially when paired with recent highend gpus. im not saying it wont work, im saying there are better options if you are spending that kind of cash and want to fully utilize an expensive high performance GPU.

I decided a long time ago that GTX 970 would be the furthest i will go with my X5670 as after that it really is a case of diminishing returns.

Very honest guy that is!

And don't stress the "triple channel", in fact it's slower or just equal to the dual channel of next gen (Sandy Bridge) due to multiple optimizations.

My opinion on the matter is: the only useful "Pascal" GPU for your setup would be - at most - a single 1080, no SLI at all, it's just too much for that CPU to handle. That said, the 1080 should be a 20-30% upgrade over your 970 SLI setup and also has 4(,5) GB more vram which is certainly useful too (if not now, in the future, 100%).
