Has Youtube Lost it's Mind?

Update for me. The Youtube shenanigans started up again and they added a new twist to irritate me by locking up the screen if I didn't agree to turn off my adblocker. I finally gave up and turned off Adblock and the crap hasn't been as bad. At least now I get ads that give me the option of clicking on skip after a few seconds and the ads don't pop up nearly as often. Maybe I got sorted into some special category for people that resisted so hard?
Do you really have Ublock Origin or have you got Ublock.

I have nothing of all this with Ublock Origin. Mind the Origin part. ;) Also on Firefox

I've never tried Ublock Origin. I've been using Adblock for years. I will give it a try.

Switched to Ublock Origin from Adblock Plus few years ago and nothing to complain here.

Now when I think of it, I can't even remember when I browsed the interwebz last time on my PC without an adblocker.

edit: I use an app called Adblock Pro on my iPhone and it works great when browsing. Despite its name, it has nothing to do with the Adblock plugin.

OK, I removed Adblock and installed Ublock Origin. Turned it off on this site only. I will have to give it a test drive and see. Thanks for the help all.

They have that tier. It's the basic subscription, $14. I'm ok with it.

Really? What the hell else is there that is not either,
A: Wildly over-priced
B: Bloated with ads
C: A total crap-show

Or do you just not stream?
14 is a bit much here for me.

but they piss away so much money on paying the 1% of youtubers and execs but then google lays off close to 20k ppl and I hope they get broken up they are such an evil company rn...

it seems as if it's a fad for companies to be evil right now and I want off this rock!

on desktop I don't get youtube ads cuz I use ublock origin and 3 layer firewall ad blocking but on mobile it's a pain I have to use firefox w ublock origin and then use my manual orientation control and then fullscreen on any vid each time. firefox has some issue with my phone to where it won't auto rotate all the time.

Dunno the Tube is behaving badly for me too. I am on premium, no ads for sure, but it laggs SO much switching rapidly from video to video! Buffering seems fine once the video bites. No, it's not my internet. Fast enough, PC is on LAN, not Wifi. Tried a few browsers, the same. Will try Brave and see what happens as well.
try ublock origin and my fix that I shared.. the ambient glow uses a ton of cpu... I always turn that off on my phones too to get better battery life...

add this to ublock origin custom filters

Code:
youtube.com#$##cinematics.ytd-watch-flexy{display:none}

Personally I also think that having an ad-free youtube on phone is not worth 12EUR/month, as I use youtube 99% of the time on PC. And I have mp3s on my backup phone which I use as a music player like back in the day, so no need for music from youtube as well.

Currently my only subscription is PS+ Premium.

It's stupid because 78% of that cost is YT Music being bundled with it.
YT Music on its own is much more than YT Premium if you look at what the % of the costs are in the bundle (10.99/Mo for YTM, and 13.99 for both).

Google isn't just making you pay for ad-free YT, they're ramming YT Music down your throat too.
If you happen to want both anyway OK, but if you're only looking to get rid of ads, it's a bad deal.

yep tons of ppl are doing this crap lenslist was a site I used to find some awesome AR filters to use for musical cosplaying and used to be a free site and now they charge 50 A WEEK and bundle a buncha useless branding and mood boards and consulting and a buncha extra crap I don't want... I just wanna be able to browse a category and find filters.

this premium upselling crap DOES. NOT. WORK. WHEN. PPL. CAN'T. AFFORD. FOOD. AND. RENT.

The other thing I don't get is that there's 1080p and 1080p premium quality. I don't see any difference myself.

Though I watch everything at 4K when possible, but still.

Another issue with YT is that the titles of the video do not match the thumbnails randomly. Anyone else have same issue?

Haven't encountered that (at yet) myself. What annoys me is that some videos' titles are translated to Finnish.

There's an issue with VP9 codec. Randomly, the video will stop, and there's a good chance that you have to refresh the page.

On the video where it randomly goes into buffering, check "Stats for nerds", and there's a very high chance it will show "vp09".

Try Ad Jump, it's a little annoying to maintain it's privileges as google keeps disabling it. That said, it's awesome as an ad skipper and muter.

I used noscript for eons

Does it work on noon rooted?

I've watched a bunch of Youtube videos now and I have become a Ublock fan. Works perfectly to end the irritating ads. :)

There is currently issues that with youtube that started appearing on firefox a week or so back, initially I thought it was related to my GPU swap as the timing wasnt far off, but a day after I posted on the firefox subreddit floods of similar complaints came in and now is a official bug opened for it.

Suddenly the site needs a ton more CPU cycles, I wonder how bad it is now on firefox on a old laptop or something.

I am grateful too, I benefited from the thread as well. Installed: PrivacyBadger + Decentraleyes + AdBlocker Ultimate and everything goes faster on any website. I am just shocked how many trackers are there on some of the websites I visit regularly.

A week or so ago they f'd up the code in Firefox and Prime Video would just refuse to negotiate HDCP. Wouldn't be surprised if they somehow broke the code that works with YouTube.

There's your problem. Watch YouTube on a PC or laptop.
Lex, you missed that I watch Youtube 99.9% of the time on PC. :D

So that's why I'm not paying (at least currently) for premium that I'd get ad-free on iPhone.

Is it for iPhone/Safari?
