The screws are almost completely stripped though, will it still work?

sure. so long as you can get enough of a bite to turn them. they should loosen up a bunch. if the screws are stripped you could ship it to me and I will put it in my mill and gently remove the heads with a end mill for ya. Just pay shipping, it'll take me 10 minutes to machine the heads off and then you can pull it apart from there.

Alright, I have a soldering iron that's pretty old. It's 120V, 60 cycles and 1 amp max, whatever that means. Would this do the job?

Well, the soldering heating thing didn't work. It may be that the screws are so stripped that they won't come out. I could either drill the holes bigger so I can fit a hex key or something in there or I can take it to a place that does this kind of crap every day. Is the drilling thing even a good idea?

Cut a slot in the screw head so you can use a flat head screw driver.

Great, I don't think they're ever gonna come out. I'm just gonna sell this 470 and the waterblock and get a 6870 or something. I was kinda hoping this would work. :(

if you have a dremel be very careful and knock the heads of the screws off then i will sell you a new retail cooler for your 470 for the cost of shipping :) i bought an extra when they were on sale

That'd be awesome, but even if I knocked all the heads off the back ones, I'd still have to get the two side ones, which haven proven themselves to be extremely hard to remove. Maybe I can use superglue, pour it in, stick the screwdriver head in and when it sets try and get it loose?

AHH! YES! I stepped up the size of the drillbit and drilled further into the screws. Guess what? It POPPED THE HEADS OFF! I have all of them off except one on the side where the connections are, which I'll get after the battery charges. And Athlon, I'll take you up on that offer sometime soon because the heatsink is useless now.

if the paste is squeezing out its too much... its enough to put a small amount on it, enough to cover the chips HSF

No thanks, I'm looking for blue/UV ones to go with the build colors/light up the tubing. Thanks for the offer though man. :toast: If anyone has some blue or UV led's, though, let me know. And here's a problem to solve for when I wake up in the morning. :)

I'm in the process of refilling. I'm at the stage where the pump isn't pushing water and it's making this annoying whining noise, like a woman with a Boston accent going "aaaaaaa" for the doctor. This happened the last 2 times I've had to empty/refill but I forgot how to fix it. Cheers, and thanks for all the help so far. :toast:

try to tilt and rock the case a little after each small fill, to get out all eventual air bubbles.... tapping certain components with mediocre force with your knuckles can also help air to come out. ;)

little bit like that, just put small drop (really small) on the center of chip and snap on the heat sink so the pressure of the heat sink will spread the paste between the chip and HSF
dont put it too much, for thermal paste little is better
