i don't mind the HD4770 being behind the 4850 because the gains of low temps and power consumption are fine with me
to be honest a SINGLE HD4770 would be fine at 1680x for me
but i want two for bragging rites.

well.. yes he can
the GTX 260 will cost me about 30 pounds lmao

If this dealer lacks complete morality, your best bet is to get the fastest card possible for cheapest, if he is willing to let a GTX280/GTX295 or ATI 4870 X2 go for less than £30, even if its at say £100 its a complete bargain.

why do ppl keep saying the 4850s run hot!
that was only on the reference 4850s
any 4850 with a dual slot cooler will give you good temps.

and 2x 4850s > 2x 4770s

the xfx dual slot cooler for the 4770 sucks, i purchased one of these and they run hotter than a gtx 285.

so i bought a second just to see if it was a fluke, 2nd ran just as hot.

the ugly coolers work much better.

because i had a sapphire 4770 before getting the xfx's, 10-15C cooler on idle, and the xfx's would crash during benchmarks due to heat.

...Pretty much useless unless you have an urge to have CrossFire in an accounting computer.

Oh that's great I'm so using that one whenever possible!

The 4770 does use DDR5 but its on a 128 bit bus VS the 4850 DDR3 on a 256 bit bus. Still everyone is correct the 4770 is the first card with a 40nm GPU and DDR5 uses less power than DDR3. The 4770 runs really cool and uses little power for the performance it gives. I think its the best mid range card in a long time!

finally! someone agrees.
but now i've decided to save up for an epic graphics card (GTX 285 or 295)
what are the power consumption/temps on those?
doesn anyone know?

i don't plan on overclocking, only maybe with the catalyst driver/control panel

RivaTuner doesn't work for Xfire. Only 1 GPU using HD4770.

CCC Overdrive is the way to go.

I thought with the Asus Top Bios the CCC clock speeds increased.

I still havn't been able to find the "top" Asus Bios. If you find it please post a link.

It does sound good.

HD4770 in Xfire sounds better though. :nutkick:

1. Cost less.
2. Runs cooler.
3. Has the latest 40nm GPU.
4. Has crazy OC ability to possibly surpass HD4870 performance.
5. Uses less power.

I had 2 HD4850s in Xfire as well. They used more power and were hotter.
HD4770 has better 40nm GPU which performs better 3D AA during game play.
HD4770 overclocked destroys HD4850 overclocked.

Depends on which games you are playing. Some games require a powerful GPU.

IMO HD4770 in Xfire for 1680x gaming does a great job. For it's performance it a great deal next to current GPU technology.

yeah.. that furthers my want to buy two of those
by the way
if the load consumprion is 73 watts.. but a game isn't that graphically intense..
will one of the cards not work whilst the other handles the game?
cos in cod4 there's a "dual video card" option
does that turn one of them off?

from the review i just saw it seem like the 4850 is still the better choice to go with it beats the 4770 in in almost all of the benchmarks and only way the 4770 would faster than the 4850 and less you overclock in which you can do the same for the 4850

I thought the same thing till I overclocked each on my system. Bottom line is the HD4770 overclocked can outperform overclocked HD4850. This knowledge is based on personal experience with both cards. (Not taken into account any type of "hard wired" voltage mods)

HD4770 outperforms the HD4850. It's a better video card.
