Help & Advice needed to maximise a Xeon 3450 build.

Just grabbed a cheap X3450 as I'm on a real budget.

I'm in the UK and I need advice on -

Motherboard (1156) - ATX/MATX doesn't matter. ebayers charging WAY too much for these old boards. It needs to be a good clocker and support the fastest memory the chip can cope with. I need to find a bargain! ! ! A suitable cooler suggestion as well please.

RAM - What is the fastest speed RAM this chip can be pushed to run? I'll be looking for 16gb in total.

GPU - 1080p capable that's not going to be too restricted by the chip being clocked at 3.8/4 ghz. I'm thinking GTX 1050ti/GTX 1060?

I already have everything else. Any help or advice greatly appreciated. Thanks guys and gals

A GTX1080 wouldn't be restricted by that chip. Could go with a 1070 however.

Although I've seen an I7 860@4ghz with an overclocked GTX 970 that was only giving low 80s GPU usage in a few titles and dropping below 60fps.

Ideally I want whatever card I get to be fully utilised.... Maybe a 1050ti would be more balanced? I have a lot of unplayed older titles where the 4gb Vram would be ample and the card could still easily break the 60fps mark.

Maybe if I get the board and ram first. See how far the chip will go and then base a card purchase on that?

There's a reason 1156 socket processors are so cheap. The motherboards are ridiculously expensive. :nutkick:

Ha, tis true. I will find one though

At least I can use it at stock and it seems to be running my 750 ti fine. Just want to max it out though and enjoy it to it's maximum potential.

For 1080p just get a 480 or 1060.

So what were the best 1156 boards back in the day? Something reliable that can overclock well and run memory at good speeds. I've seen an i7 860@4Ghz running with 2000Mhz DDR3. Is or was that quite doable on a regular basis?
