1050w from the wall would be ~900w load on the PSU. Slightly over spec of the unit, but not by a whole lot. The HX850 is a beastly power supply, so it really isn't surprising that it handled that without a problem. In fact, I've seen it 1000w load on an HX850v1, and the HX850v2 loaded to 990w, and both maintained over 80% efficiency which is usually not something you see. Usually when you start to overload a PSU the efficiency starts to tank quick. Basically, the only reason the HX850v1/v2 are marketed as 850w units is so they stay in the 80+ Gold certification. Oh, and yes, the HX850v1 was 80+ Gold Certified even though Corsair marketed it as a Silver unit. Plus the HX850 has great overcurrent protection. If you really hit the limit of the unit it will shut down before any damage is done.

Now, yes, I do agree that you should start looking for a bigger unit because I don't like running a PSU at its maximum long term like that. And having a more powerful unit will probably help improve overclocking. However, I just wanted to put you at ease that running the HX850 for a while won't put you at risk of burning down your computer.

Also, I agree with the AX1200/i recommendation. However, if you want to save some money the HX1050 is also a very good option.

No, the 1000w version is 2 450w PSUs taped taped together. The hx850 is quite a bit different and better. get the ax1200i

That was the old V1 HX1000(and it was two 500w units), which is why it was one of the few Corsair PSUs to have multiple 12v rails. The current HX1050 is a more standard design with a single 12v rail, it is basically a beefed up HX850v2.

Get Evga g2 1300 and save some $.

It's 360 USD on NewEgg. I wouldn't call that saving money since it's almost as expensive as getting a Seasonic PSU with an 80 plus Platinum rating. Although, I'm a little annoyed that JonnyGuru didn't deduct points for there being a defect that he could fix himself. Most people aren't going to be cracking open their PSU (for many good reasons,) to just take a look around. Additionally, he said it was 200 USD, where if you look now, it's 360 USD. Did the price of it really go up by 160 USD or did he low ball it while looking at a sale? I almost want to call sheninigans. Does anyone have one of these PSUs who can vouch for it?

Super Biiz has it listed for $200 but are out of stock. NCIX has it for $230 and are showing in stock. Mining has had it's effect on large power PSU's just like it has with AMD cards. There are a lot of over priced PSU's right now because of it. Personally, I would boycott Newegg because of what they've done with prices.

Two things:

OP is in canada. Newegg isn't the only online retailer.

EDIT: Third thing, EVGA lists it as $229 on their website http://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=120-G2-1300-XR
Newegg is doing well with their profit margin these days.

The digital units are nice, but realistically, unless you're doing 24/7 bitcoin mining, you'll only see a few pennies saved on your electric bill.

There are plenty adequate units in the $200 range that are sufficient, many of them jonnyGURU recommended.

When I built my system I went with the XFX 850w Black Edition. It's silver rated and one of two PSUs that were given a perfect 10/10 by jonnyGURU at the time, the other being the Corsair HX850.

by this statment its a better psu then the seasonic jonnyguru

And just ordered it from Memory express with tax and shit $298..

My HX 850 took a big ol shit @ 1050ish watts benching my rig a few weeks ago and the past week I've been struggling on why is this and that happening with the system.

I cant clock my cards like I could before and have done 2 fresh W7 OS installs and she wont clock up the cards and run any bench. I just get display driver failed or just a black screen among other issues I wont mention because I HAVE OCD and it just pisses me off that when talking to a few other members here they say YUP PSU is fucked!

She just dont take the load anymore but being 5 yrs old she served me well.
Now lets hope the evga 1300 watter is a killer!!!

Well link me my man!

Everybody raves about JonnyGURU's reviews and I think I done well for the money.

Plus a VERY respected GURU here on TPU said, -quote- If I didn't get his **e*m**t**e 1250 for free he'd have saved my cash and bought the same psu.
So I trust him, and you guys as well but I had a lot of ppl recommend the evga 1300W so who am I to say is wrong?

I checked out the latest wattage configurator, and it said a minimum wattage of 1102 and recomended a 1200w psu so Now I have room to spare ;)

i don't remember if it was the SuperNova or which of their series, but i was one of their first series of psu's, i know EVGA don't got many out but still, i don't remember where i read it if it was a review here og guru3d or something :(

my memory ain't that good, but i know i read it on one of their series, but i haven't read about the G2, i just know that Seasonic is always a solid choice even it costs ^^

Yup I seen there were issues with their 1st gen psu's but the g2 from all the reviews is a no brainer. Will post some pix when it gets here.

It was the SuperNova NEX1500 and [H] failed it. There was also issues of the retail models not using all Japanese caps like the review samples. That unit was made by Etasis. EVGA used Superflower for the SuperNova 1300. They generally rate right up there with the top OEM's.

This is a good idea, and it's a fun little exercise. You may well be surprised at the potential wattage change.

EDIT: power meter bounces from 36watts to 107 watts..

Weird, is that the Hasswell feature kicking in? I have the cpu @ 4.6GHz but have the power settings in low state so it idle's @ 1.6 ghz..

Any ideas?

Edit: Broken fan

Not to go off topic but the rig is down. :(
Fucking cheap ass fans whom ever msi got to build them needs a kick in the balls!
A fan blade broke off ( will link pic in the msi club)
Just waiting for the epoxy to cure which it should be in a few more min.
I'll check the idle watts in a few min and post back.
@manofthem want a nut kick? Same angle hmmm
I'm still waiting for you to install GOW !!! Been dieing for a the same angle of you laying in a pool of brains from all the head shots I'd fire off lol.
