Help computer is hella SLOW all of a sudden.

Sounds like the HDD is dying, I had those symptoms when I added a dying 320GB Seagate drive.

But it could also be one hell of an infection.

Yeah,no virus. just finished scanning with eset. Spbot found noting.

Must be the HD... Time to contact Samsung. The drive only lasted 9 months.
My seagate is still ran strong for 4+ years. I should have kept that drive as a backup.

Go ahead and install Crystaldiskinfo and take a screenshot. Then post it here.

ok hold on. Also ran a system restore before the scan. did nothing.

I'm still not sure why the computer lagged when I tired to install win7 on a different HD... I basically gave up on that.

its 1 of 3 things, Harddrive is dying, faulty stick of memory (if you have 2 sticks try one at a time) or ive seen afew times with graphics cards with faulty memory the system can take ages to do anything including hanging when highlighting icons on desktop.

It says "good".

Then it's not the HDD. From my use of the program it's always know when a HDD is bad or not.

i see, i'll run a memtest

hard drive might be just fragmented !,run defragment and see if that improves performance

Memest. Pass 1 - 0 errors.

I don't know what else to do. I just defrag the drives a week ago.

I'll remove the Graphic Card and use the onboard and see what happens.

Try a defrag and get back to us. I defrag once a week, via the scheduled Win 7 time.

Been 15 mins.. Defrag app still hasn't loaded.... This thing is lagging.

edit: okay it's now starting. But it doesn't look fragmented at all.

Anyone know how to enable the onboard graphic? I disabled it and don't remember how to enable it. It's no longer on the "device manager"..

Defrag didn't do squat. I am going to remove my graphic card and reset my bios to default

I would just scrap the OS and format the Drive(s) and see if that fixes it .

It's definitely not the HD or OS. I just installed the drive on my bros computer and it ran fine.

So the lagging only happens on my setup. What else could it be? The power supply? The Mobo?

As stated before. the lagging still occurred when in tried to install a OS on a different drive. So the lagging occurs even before it logs into the OS.

so we have ruled out your hard drive, and viruses.
memtest also passed, I say its your motherboard or graphics (try flashing mobo bios if onboard graphics doesn't do anything.)

Remove my GC didn't help at all. I will flash my mobo bios.

Anything odd in the BIOS? Voltages look ok? Clear your CMOS before you update ;)

Flashing the bios didn't help either. So I should just request an RMA for the mobo?

Mobo or CPU at this point. You sure are having one heck of a problem. :(

Update: It was the mobo all this time. I sent it to Asus on Dec 29.

The current status is: "WaitSwap". as of today. I'm guessing I will be getting a replacement.

Not sure why it started to lag for no reason.

Update: They are shipping out my mobo today. Not sure if its repaired or a replacement.

maybe overheating on the SB

Update! Got the new mobo today. It came in a brand new retail box. Sweet.

Installed the new mobo and suffered the "windows is not genuine crap".

Enter my serial and nothing...

Called MS and they activated the serial for me manually.

All in all. I didn't have to buy a new mobo and I'm happy. Long story short. don't email Asus, just give them a call.

run chkdsk

load of the command prompt and put in chkdsk /r /f

then say yes to have it run on next boot

you may have some corrupted windows files
