Help finding a new computer desk, something with good depth so a monitor can sit back far, help!!!

You can go to a hardware store and buy the stuff to build a desk to your standards.
All you need to know how to use is a screwdriver, masking tape, and have the ability to use spray paint.

Having a skil saw, sabre saw, table saw, drill press, electric drill and router makes building whatever you can dream up possible. You'll only be limited by your skills. I have a huge collection of tools but now my basement stairs are an obstacle course for me. There's a place near me that builds custom countertops for restaurants I get top-quality materials from there that are far better than any hardware store and for next to nothing (and free sometimes). I have two 48 x 36 x 3/4 unblemished laminated hardwood sections I hope to use in a project when I'm able to. I got both for $10 from them, they came from a supper club they renovated and saved for me.

Working on making me a new desk now. Menards sells counter tops for <$100 each up to 12' long. Can set it on file cabinets which you can get from Wal-Mart for like $30-40 each. If you need supports, use 4"x4" cut to length and screw it all together.

Here's my old version... new will be similar. Both counters are 8 foot:

Not beautiful but ultra functional. Can put a 17" CRT on it easily.

Depending on the Menard's store some have 48" sections like the piece on the left minus that backstop for less than $5. I used to buy them all the time and make 12" x 14" kitchen cutting boards out of them. They still have that bottom lip on them. They vanished a few years ago then reappeared in two stores near me last month. You can find them in the shelving section if the store carries them.

That's a brilliant idea Ford, also I have that same Samsung 1920x1200 monitor lol

Also, gaming on marble would make feel like an Ancient Roman Emperor, I might actually look into this assuming I can find tall enough file cabinets. I have an exact height I require, it's just comfy to me. My chair must always be at max height, I don't know why I just like it that way

Still leaning towards the IKEA one as it is the exact dimensions I am looking for and only $45, all depends if they activate click and collect anytime soon... sigh really annoying

If you don't have a lot of space, the counter + cabinets won't work Honestly, Anything less than 6 feet, cabinets are out because there won't be enough room for a chair.

Not sure if you have the option, but a corner desk offers a ton more real estate and depth. Not the L shaped ones, but the diamond shaped ones.

I don't think corner desks are that good for home gaming setups.

I'd have one just custom made.but I'm lucky to have two of my neighbors have their own workshops.

Bit of a couple older pictures but nice and simple desks make for the easiest for setting up

Advantage of corner is that your rear speakers can be stuck to the same walls you're cornering in, instead of somewhere on the other end of the room, or god forbid the ceiling.

its also nice for stereo image because you can easily center that.

Note: @phill has a proper corner desk up there in that pic. Rounded corner, solid top.

That, and aforementioned mouse arm side. Its really comfy to have a royal extended top on that side, especially if you lean back and stuff. I can place my whole arm on the desk so it serves as elbow rest. Another big one is productivity. With multi screen or multi rig situations you can physically separate workspaces more easily in a corner. Just turn 45~90 degrees to work on the other thing. It reduces neck strain that way, because you tend to turn in your chair more easily.

10 years of gaming with mine says different. To each there own, but why the broad statement just because you don't prefer it? There is nothing anywhere that says shape of the desk implies a specific task.

Look closely at my picture. Rear channel is +12 dB. Sounds like headphones with a crapload more power when doing stereo surround.

I picked up a second hand office desk and I was surprised at both the price and quality....well worth looking about.
