Help fixing Acer Aspire M1100

Hi guys,

I'm trying to fix this for a colleague, but it appears the motherboard is dead. There's no signal output to the monitor and there's no beeps at start up. I've tried unplugging HDD, DVD drive, and running it with just one stick of ram, also tried different PSU. Still nothing. The fans just whir, so there's power to the board.

Is it worth getting a replacement motherboard for a machine this old (2007)? Not sure what socket it uses, so don't want to get the wrong one. If you could find a cheap replacement on ebay or elsewhere I'd be grateful.

Specs are:
AMD athlon 4000+ 64x2
1GB DDR2
radeon xpress 1250 (onboard graphics)
Delta (lol) PSU

Not worth the cost of a new MoBo. If you find a MoBo for less than £20 it might be worth it, otherwise its a money sink.

If he has a tight budget then you could find him a FM2 board with a A4 4000 APU and 4GB DDR3 for quite cheap

Any ideas for a budget build?

I can reuse the PSU, case, DVD drive and HDD

It will only really be used for internet, email, no gaming, nothing heavy. I've no idea where to start, been out of the loop for a while. How about an AMD trinity APU thingy??

Looks fine for everyday use, no IDE on the mobo fine if the old hdd is sata

Biostar Mobo; no DVI and NO HDMI, shame, but 13.76 cheaper and covers the added cost of the Liteon still fine

You could find an AM2/AM2+ board used somewhere and save some money. A new system would be nicer, but the moneys..

If you do that, get some more memory somewhere, that would help a LOT.

I'll forget that mobo then, I've no way of updating the BIOS. Any motherboards on ebuyer that'll support the aforementioned CPU right out of the box?

According to Asrock web site support for Richland A4-4000 CPU was added in a bios update2.50 on 5/6/2013 [*may require flashing]

nb: the asrock mobo is £44, spend the extra £4.58 and *maybe get the Gigabyte [GA-F2A55M-HD2 (rev. 1.0)] for peace of mind or GA-F2A55M-HD2 (rev. 1.2) if you can find one at a good price; just saying

They will boot with the richland CPU's in them even with the old BIOS, but it will not recognize the full feature support. Just an FYI.
