I have been wondering about things as of late , Intel has the core i7 , i5 and i3 AMD well I haven't been keeping up with AMD at all but I hear tell they have 6 core CPU's and well need some help I want to build a new setup and need some information . First off with all these different choices what is the best one for the cheapest price ( Not that price is an issue ) best bang for the buck and best over all over clocking CPU . All this new stuff has me very confused as what to get . I want one that will be over all better for my crossfire video cards as well ( I do not plan an upgrade for these just yet ) . Need mother board , RAM and CPU . Please . :respect: Oh and if possible one that I will not have to change out my water block for . The D-Tech v2 .

Nobody wants to stick his/hers neck out for this one. Your CPU/RAM will keep you going for all normal (including photo editing) task for now and for some time a head. I'm still on a P35 board / 775 for normal use and the only reason I will upgrade is multible caps blown.

If I were you I'd wait another month or so when AMD finally releases Bulldozer.
If you don't want wait I'd go with an Intel Sandy bridge as AMD is on verge of releasing a new socket AM3+ shortly followed by the release of the new lineup.

I can wait I am in no hurry , I just have been out of the loop and with all the "new " CPU's and motherboards out I am finding it hard to choose . I like performance speed and over clocking . I want to be able to make a good choice in this . Bulldozer sounds great but I do not like to buy first run stuff as they tend to be less than perfect and they tend to come out 2-4 months later with some thing that kills the one they just put out .

@mstenholm

I will stick mine out ... :)

@Trickson

Stick it out til LGA2011. If you get impatient til then, the only things worthwhile ON THE MARKET CURRENTLY I can think of coming from a Q9xxx (if "unlimited" budget) is:
AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition Thuban 3.2GHz...
Intel Xeon X3440 Lynnfield 2.53GHz 8MB L3 Cache LG...
OR
Intel Core i7-970 Gulftown 3.2GHz 6 x 256KB L2 Cac...

EDIT:

Sorry had to swap out a cpu.

I really have been looking at that AMD 6 core CPU really nice price ! How does it stack up against the i7 970 though ?

This is in a non-overclocked environment and I THINK with 1333 cl9 ram.

As you can see in a heavily multi-threaded environment, the 970 can be up to 35%, sometimes 50%, sometimes on par.

Nice thank you for that . This is a helpful tool thank you . I can also see how well mine does against them as well and if it is really worth doing just yet . WOW thank you .
