help which is better gpu at 1080 p gaming

I feel as though this thread was useless in yhe end because he took no ones advice and went with a card that is in my opinion complete overkill for 1080p

Even without VR it's never overkill, especially if you want to maintain 100+ frame rate.

i respect your opinion , but i have to clarify that i had r9 290 before and wanted to change it because temperature issues and sound so if i upgrade to gtx 980 i will not see huge difference .

I will probably be running this 290 until 8-10 years from now. ( Yes thats how long i keep hardware as a main rig...

Well you made a good choice as a GTX 980ti is the best GPU of this round (Minus Titan X) and though its overkill for 1080p it will still keep you going for quite some time. GTX 980ti > Fury X > Fury Nano > Fury > GTX 980 > R9 390X > R9 390 > GTX 970 etc.

Hopefully it will serve you well.

Yep, or downsampling + SweetFX. Remember peeps laughing at me for having orginial Titans on 1080p on a different forum. But I actually killed one. Was doing crazy downsampling from 4k with 4k tex in Skyrim with SweetFX. I get a little crazy at times. Still rocking the two old dinosaur cards to date.

fury is so beast with the new GCN along with higher geometry and HBM.. well not at 1080p so much and same for the 290-390. best choice for them is between 1440p and 4k. You can tell what i favor but I would not shake my head at a 980ti so since you got one you should look at new monitors too. If you decide on 4k its going to be a much better experience with two gpu's. 1440p is my favorite res since one high end gpu is fine and they look amazing in comparison to 1080p especially if you like larger displays or sitting pretty close.

Many people don't seem to get that how high the fps go is irrelevent, it's the lows that count and hit hitting 30-40fps is poor, even with adaptive sync. So, if someone has a 980 SLI rig say and tell me that they play some demanding games at an even lower 1680x1050 to maintain 144fps (especially if vsync locked) then I'm in full agreement.
