what brand of ram, what ram speed and did you check that your ram was on your boards QVL list before buying ram? Ryzen systems tend to be very fussy. also check that your SSD isnt almost full.

I've had this computer for a year without issues, my ram is fine with this board and i'm currently on a fresh install of windows now hoping this would fix the issue but nope.

wow, why are you so emotional? You asked a question, I gave you the answer. I already know my ram and mobo is right for eachother, what do you want me to do? lie to make you feel better?

What games are you experiencing it in? The Forest has some kind of rendering bug that makes the game stutter when side stepping. In other games, I suspect the CPU was not fast enough.

If you have Windows 10, using Task Manager's performance tab to capture the performance counters helps a lot to diagnose where the problem is.

I'm currently playing the crew 2 hitches and stutters every so often, i'll print screen task manager for you now

Oh, forgot to mention, right-click on the CPU graph and change it to show logical processors. It only takes one logical processor peaking to cause stutters.

It is strange how the GPU isn't hitting 100%. Have you tried changing vsync setting in graphics options?

I'm minimising the game to print screen the screenshots, is that what I'm mean't to do?

I meant that it's only running at 80-90% rather than hitting 100%. Vsync or other framelimiters can prevent it from hitting 100% but they can also induce stutter.

You could try enabling Fast Sync in NVIDIA Control Panel for the game and make sure to turn vsync off in the game options. You might get some tearing but it could eliminating the stuttering.

I'll try that next.

I did try lowering my resolution to 1440p this did stop most of the stutter but when dropping 2 fps below 60 with vsync on the game stutters a bit. is that normal?

It shouldn't unless you're super sensitivity to that. Fast Sync should help because it tells the GPU to send whatever it has to the monitor instead of waiting.

I tried the fast sync, still stutters also turned v sync off completely from everything and still had stutter along with screen tear. it seems whenever a frame drops the computer just hitches, no matter how small the fps drop is. also notice that when the screen hitches, my gpu noise also skips

Maybe power supply isn't getting enough power to something? GPU fans shouldn't have an immediate response like that unless there literally isn't enough voltage.

Could try running something like Furmark to put a constant load on the GPU and see what happens.

I'm running a XFX XT600 600W 80+ Bronze PSU. Which should be ok with a gtx 1080, ryzen 5 1600? I tried furmark for 20mins and nothing happened gpu went to 80c and stayed there. I'm at a loss at what could be happening?

to OP: in a typical scenario, high fps with high frame-time & stuttering usually stem from CPU bottle-neck. The i5-4460 is probably the culprit here as it's holding the GPU back. One thing u can do is to enable V-sync in-game by reducing the GPU usage down so the CPU can keep up with the beastly RX590. If the problem still persist, the only solution to get rid of bottle-neck completely is to upgrade to a faster processor.

If nothing happened for 20 minutes then the PSU is probably fine.

I would change Task Manager CPU graph to logical processors then play the game until it stutters, immediately after it does, alt+tab out and take a screenshot of the logical processors graph.

I think the bottleneck is the R5 1600X. 600W 80+ Bronze is plenty for that setup imo...

You guys are grasping at straws. We don't even know what the guy defines as 'stutter' yet. Needs to be supported by a video / proper OP, with said behavior or its anyone's guess and there is a risk of monumental time being wasted. We're already a page in. Be ready for 3 more.

This topic should not be necrod. Everyone has a different use case and cause for stutter.

I'm not sure I understand your reasoning with your post? a stutter is a stutter. their is no differences.. the game hangs for split seconds, enough for my to notice that it is not smooth and that my computer should not stutter when losing a frame that goes under 60.

regardless, here is a video to what I am experiencing that someone else posted.

Yep, I do, and your stutter here is reproducible on a very specific spot in the game. This looks like you're running over the edge of some major assets being loaded and unloaded. Might very well be game related and totally not worth your time.

Stutter is most certainly not a simple problem with a single solution and it depends on dozens of factors. I still believe you need your own topic instead of hijacking something that got necro'd. What you will get now is lots of random advice and nobody really giving it much thought instead of the thorough analysis these problems tend to require.

We also need you to fill your System Specs in your profile so we can skip a long game of asking for details.

That is probably due to the game streaming assets for the next area. The fact it is so reproducible to that specific location makes it almost a certainty.

Even though The Crew 2 is a streaming game engine, the world isn't all that dense so it isn't something that a player should ever notice unless the drive the game is installed on is failing. Your task manager screen shot showed little disk activity so I doubt that is the problem here.
