How can i extract a bios file from an Asus .exe file ??

They are using an old thread for the same topic. They are not hijacking. Let the moderators do the moderating.

I see. I didn't even know this was for a netbook. Same principal though, the file doesn't need to be extracted. It either needs to be done through the bios or Asus needs to send an .exe that will flash automatically, if such a thing exists for this netbook.

he says the machine is bricked so idk I just poked around in the file he gave it is a self flashing image but it header is weird I doubt even if it could be extracted that it would be usable

Here's a screenshot of the files inside the .exe (or .zip w/e) in the OP.
Gimme a sec while I extract the .exe that's inside that aforementioned .exe :p

I guess (s)he is trying to flash the MotherBoard BIOS of the Netbook using some EPROM programmer, because if the device (BIOS) really is bricked thats the only way to DIY.
I'll see what I can get from that AMI exe.

Nope, can't extract it any more this end, comes up with an error when trying to extract the .exe in my screenie above (see attachment below) if any pro's know what this error means, chime in please!

If you run the file, it will most likely flash the BIOS from OS and then you reboot to make the changes take effect. Don't blame me if it fubars though...
The bottom .exe in my screenshot above (after unpacking the .zip in the OP then unpacking the .exe) weighs 877 kb so it's definitely a flashing tool with the BIOS. But yea, it comes up with the error when I try to unpack it further.

If I'm thinking right, s/he's trying to flash the VGA BIOS of his/her HD 4870. I'm unsure of whether it's mobility (laptop) or not, because I just changed the extension of the .cfg file to a .txt, opened it in notepad and it contains this:

Code:
;path can be absolute or relative
PATH_TYPE=absolute
AUTOPGM=0
;BIOS_NAME=r480.rom
OEM_VBIOS_VERSION=008.011.029.022
GRAPHICS_MARKETING_NAME=ATI_MOBILITY_RADEON_9600
OEM=0

And I'm unsure of whether the OP has a 512MB or 1GB 4870.

You don't need to extract the file. Save it as .bin

Do you mean renaming the .exe file to .bin ? I don't think this will work.
The Mini 110 has boot block recovery. What I have to do is to put the BIOS in a USB disk and press Ctrl + Left arrow when power on.

Back to my original question. Why I cannot get the same result as temp02 when I extracting the same file as him with reshack ?

Thanks again.

Recover an earlier version of BIOS
Whenever you upgrade the BIOS on your notebook, a copy of the previous version is stored in the HP TOOLS partition of your hard disk drive. This is considered the last known good version of the BIOS. Newer HP notebook PCs have an emergency BIOS recovery feature that will allow you to recover and install the last known good version of the BIOS from the hard drive, as long as the hard drive remains functional. This emergency recovery feature is separate from the BIOS and is designed to work in the event of a catastrophic BIOS failure.
To recover an earlier version of the BIOS on your notebook:
Plug the notebook into an AC adapter.
Press the Power button while holding the Windows key and the B key.
The emergency recovery feature replaces the BIOS with the last known good version. The computer reboots automatically when the process is completed successfully.

I really have to try this and will report later if it works or not.

Thanks.

Too bad that the Windows + B didn't work. I tried also to look into the HP TOOLS partition but there are no files which look like a BIOS image. I am still stuck here.

@JoiYiu

I last flashed a HP mb BIOS but was getting some error which I can not remember which cause the BIOS process to halt.
During that time I found the .ROM in a Temp folder which I copied and pasted to the desktop and flashed manually.

I do not remember when the BIOS extracts to the temp folder though.
Whether if it's before the process of flashing the BIOS or during the process of flashing the BIOS.

I have an HP Mini 110 so I suppose I could take a look at the BIOS exe.

EDIT:-
I just remembered, I have this HP mini because it appeared to be bricked.
It just refused to power on.
What I had to do was take out the RAM and the CMOS battery hold the power swtich in on state for about 15 seconds, put back the cmos battery and the RAM and away it went.

BTW make sure you have the power adaptor disconnected when draining all the residual power form the HP Mini.

Although in order to get to the CMOS battery you have to disassemble the HP Mini.
Not terribly complicated.
If you plan to disassemble and need some guidance, just PM me.
