Yes, monitor has no DP, it has HDMI, and DVI, which did 144hz fine. gpu has no DVI. i did look at DP/HDMI to DVI adapters capable of 144 but tbh it would be cheaper to buy a new monitor
So, this is what you need to know;
Horizontal syncDVI: 30 - 159kHz
When you need to go purchase an hdmi 1.4 cable, the sole requirment is that it specifies 165MHz one way or another.

Would this be ok? i know it is pretty cheap.

I could maybe go for a 1440 one if the 5700xt is capable and it is cheap enough
Are you sure you looked properly, as the Iiyama specs says it has DP.
Digital input connector
DVI-D, HDMI, DisplayPort
On top of that, HDMI and DVI uses the same signalling, so you can get very simple HDMI to DVI adapters, such as this:

Hdmi 1.3-1.4b are cleared for 144Hz.

That is probably the GB2, in the GB1 there is not.

Right, I guess he needs something like this then, as dual-link DVI is needed. All of four quid for 2m.

I don't much like hdmi since it causes more issues as a whole, but it gives the smart option to carry audio through, therefore it might help curtail the cable clutter.

So that adapter would do 144?

thx guys.

What about the monitor i linked? would that be easier overall as it does have DP and AMD freesync

Hang on, that star tech one is limited to 1200p/60Hz, so that wouldn't work, the second cable would though.

thx guys.

Personally I wouldn't touch AOC, but that's down to a really bad personal experience with them, their support or how they treat their customers when there's a problem.

Considering your hardware, I would go 1440p if you can afford it.
This is the one I had in Sweden for a few months, but I didn't pay that much for it.
This looks like a pretty good deal if you have the cash to spend.
Or you could go with something really curved...
There seems to be a bit of a shortage of screens on Amazon in the UK right and the only decently priced stuff is apparently Samsung.

the 5700xt will play games on 2560x1440 at 144Hz but not on the highest settings. Be ready for that. Depending on the title even the rtx 3080 cant do it.

I'm still ok with that, i don't usually set ultra at 1080 anyway, i am fine with high usually.

Here is the reply i got off iiyama-

the refresh rate on hdmi port is limited by used scaler chip

do you understand this?

thx

Yes, the scaler runs the raster. Raster is the continuous refreshing of the monitor, so a faster/slower refresh takes more time that your monitor refresh period changes by. Have they told the MHz limit on the scaler? If you reinstall your monitor driver, I think we will know it as an enlisted refresh option.
