The killer BIOS also had SOC over 1.3v. I now set the power manually and use a modded BIOS, with far more options than Gigabytes crappy one.

Right..I was gonna say 1.5vcore will not kill a Ryzen..1.3v on the SoC probably would...
I haven't been able to even post above 1.25v...... Maybe with really good cooling.

That may be true to the vast majority. I'm a bios modder, so I look at things slightly differently. And actually from what I can put together, their bioses aren't so bad as of late. Although....

Gigabyte is convinced that a 1.2v default SOC voltage is "normal" to this day. lol

Gigabyte has had a lot of problems in the past couple years, and it is very obvious they are not a good company.

In my experience, almost everyone of their issues can be traced back to their shit bios department. They really do need to step it up there. "Not killing boards" should not be a baseline.

No it's not just the BIOS department, their customer service department is absolute garbage. They've been caught lying, they've taken months get people working products back from RMA, and there are multiple cases on these forums alone of their RMA department refusing replacements because of false claims of physical damage.

I forgot about those. Perhaps I have low standards courtesy ASUS, but that certainly does not make it excusable.

Quality control should have caught that, IMO. Rushing BIOS updates out before thoroughly checking all the parameters is not something a good tech or engineer would let happen, but it is the sort of thing I've heard of program managers trying to do to meet software deadlines.

Let's hope they learn from their lesson. Their forums should address whether or not this has been caught, I would think.

Gigabyte releases like 5-7 revisions of boards, its like they don't do things right the first time. I think GA should thoroughly test their bios roms.

@Melvis So, did your friend check what bios version that mobo came back with? I'm curious to know if it's a previous or future version since that one bricked hardware.

That's one helluva story. I'd be tearing my hair out if it had happened to me. Truly awful product quality from Gigabyte. It might be a good idea to eBay the thing like @newtekie1 suggested and get a different brand, as I wouldn't trust any future bios updates from them either.

Im not 100% sure but I will check for you once he returns home on Tuesday but far as I know its the same one that he flashed on there

I said this to but it would of taken out the motherboard as well, and the motherboard came out without any problems at all and is still been used today, the motherboard reported the BIOS was done correctly and had worked but after it killed the CPU and RAM. The PSU has been used all this time with every other BIOS update since the day he got it, I think back in April last yr?

its likely a slight glitch that to be fair should'nt have killed anything, your always best to return to optimised default settings before And after a bios update ,though few mention this.
