How to add fan control to an HD4670? (hardware mod, not CCC tweak)

I'm trying to control the fan of an ASUS EAH4670. Since out of the box it can't control the fan, I disassambled the BIOS using Atomdis and using an hex editor added the corresponding command table to it (#39, SpeedFanControl). Still, the card can't change it's fan speed. I guess something i's lacking in the PCB, and from this guide I think that maybe it's possible to add the component that is lacking. The problem: I have no idea about electronics! I would very thankful for any help/pointers.

PS: Here is a photo of the front & back of the reference PCB from ATi.

So you cannot just change it in the CCC?

No, even with ASUS SmartDoctor.
The BIOS that came with the card had the SpeedFanControl command table empty.

How about a Zalman Fan Mate 2 fan controller?

That's exactly what I'm using right now, but I would prefer the speed adjusted to the temperature instead of being fixed. I'm getting something like 77º avg/78º max with Furmark using the fan mate.

There are some 4670s that have fan control, for example the PWC and the Sapphire GDDR4.
