How to EDIT Disk Clusters for size

After some format snafu, my 400gb will only now read 115GB

Before all this it did read correctly in BIOS as a 400GB drive.

I have tried a zillion ways to format/partation and change, but it seems the drive has been told it's only a 115GB size[even after wiping to all zeros, and tried 1kb cluster's]

Need to know where in this table it determines what the [400GB] size is to change.

If I were you I would contact the manufacturer for a low-level formatting tool.

If you read this article, they used SeaTools for DOS to shrink the 1.5TG drives so they perform as fast as a Vraptor:

That was done with writing all zeros[low level format] but it's somehow changed in the HDD bios.

What you're trying to do is edit things on file system level, this can never change the size reported to the BIOS. I'd look at your BIOS settings, verify LBA settings are correct.

Seeing that you use Vista, it shouldn't be OS related. (Older versions of XP would show exactly this issue)

Also, the red bar under the drive, does it mean it's dynamic? If so, why?

Thanks Dan, not sure about the "red bar", it will highlight like that on which ever drive I select.
When using SeaTools for DOS, as from the link t_ski sent,I got the "200kb" after a rookie mistake of entering "400" in set manual thinking it wanted to know the "GB"size.

I tried to have it set "native", but it hosed up more since it gave me a 200kb drive??

CMOS set to Auto, or CHS ,LBA reads the same info, before it was 127GB, and in windows read 115GB, but now both CMOS and Windows read 200kb.

I tried to enter the manual "native LBA size in Seatools using 781422767, but didnt work.[That is what Seatools reports as "native size]

It appears that Seatools will re-write the HDD chip, in that it has change it twice for me. [just the wrong way lol]

Bingo, on another page at Seagate, I read to choose to report the drive in BIOS as none, before a "resize", and so wala, in Seatools I selected set "Native" size and it's done!!!

That's pretty much what Seatools for dos did, that's why it had to be "disconnected" from the BIOS and it was able to write the corrected info back to the drive.
