How To: Enable SLI on pre-i7/i5 hardware

true, it is a bug in the CPU-Z, because I have the MSI afterburner with SLI indicator and the green bar gets to full ...:toast::D:wtf::banghead:

I have an ASUS M4A87TD EVO motherboard, along with a Palit GTX 460 1GB Sonic Platinum and an MSI GTX 460 1 GB Cyclone (with SLI bridge). I am able to install the sli patch version 1.0, and get it to enable SLI in forceware 266.58, as shown in gpu-z and nvidia control panel. My problem is that I'm still getting the same frame rates in Crysis Warhead on gamer settings (about 35-45 fps) when I know I should be getting an average of 60 fps. I know my board has two lanes, 16x/4x but from other posts, this shouldn't be stopping it from performing correctly right? Just Cause 2 is no better. I am getting the same frame rates as a single GTX 460 1 GB. Same with Splinter Cell conviction, around 38-40 fps.

Does anyone else have this problem? And what would you guys suggest? It just seems like the performance is falling extremely short of my expectations and I want to do everything I can before I put the additional 460 that I just received today up on ebay lol.

That motherboard should work. On another note, I discovered that nb volts are very important when running oced sli. I couldn't get stable ocs when slied, until I bumped my nb to 1.40v, now I'm stable at 1583 shaders. Just something to think about when using this hack and trying to oc your cards....

Ya I was wondering that. I have two gtx570 and when I oved them my comp would blue screen or freeze in games. I guess you found the answer thanks.

Update: 3dmark11 = p5994 w/ 266.58 driver. Installed slipatch v1.0 final. It all works well. You need to update the sli patch to use sli on the 266.58 driver to use 3dMark11 (at least on my system).

Thanks for the tip john. Are you talking about CPU NB or just NB voltage?

Kind Regards

hey anatolymik,

I tried a lot of different driver and SLIpatch versions, but I cannot manage to get SLI working with my two GTX580 cards (with SLI-bridge) and my Intel 5520 chipset inside of the Lenovo D20 workstation. Check my system specs if you want.

I understand exactly how to proceed with your piece of software, but:

a) no SLI certificate shown in Everest
b) no SLI options in the NVIDIA control panel
c) with installed SLIpatch 1.0 (and previous versions) crashed and BSOD after some minutes inside of Windows (sometimes I can play Crysis or do benchmarks without crash, but after exiting the game it crashes...)

Since yesterday I applied the newest inf-modded Quadro drivers version 267.05, but no success also.

Without the SLIpatch I can play Crysis flawlessly and FAST (of course with only one GTX 580 card active), second GTX 580 choosed for PhysX only.

Generally my system is 100% stable, I can run Unigine Heaven, 3DMark 11 and Crysis for hours with both GTX 580 cards installed, just without SLI

I think, there is a general problem in applying the DSDT entry for the SLI certificate.
The patch says everything fine, boot-menu is visible and because of the crashes and BSOD inside Windows I'm quite sure it's working and installed in the right way.

Here my information out of Everest inside of the ACPI/DSDT table (translated from German):

nVIDIA SLI
- SLI Certification: not available
- PCI 0-0-0-0 (Direct I/O): 8086-3406 (Intel i5520)
- PCI 0-0-0-0 (HAL): 8086-3406 (Intel i5520)

Can I prepare you some files and information from my system, that you can find out where the bug is hidden?

By the way, the official SLI for that system, build with two Quadro FX4800 works out of the box. I have a second D20 workstation, so I pulled out one card from that one into my machine, applied the SLI bridge and I can activate SLI immediatly. But the FX4800 cards are kind of slow even overclocked compared to a single GTX580.

How can I help? Can't wait to have my two GTX580 riding the horse together...

I have a Gigabyte P67a-Ud3p and the sli hack doesn't work at all. I have tried all methogs.. the newest patch...... the modded old forceware and sli string loader....... all of them. The patch says it install correctly, it gives me the option for patched os at loading, but STILL NEVER an sli option in nvidia control panel. Even just did a fresh install of WIndows 7. No dice.

Am running *trying to* evga gtx 460's, have the sli bridge installed, everything is right, except to sli. It's worth money for someone to help me, as I just installed these cards with their new water blocks last night, only to find out today that I cannot sli. :banghead:

Wait, I thought that all the P67's could SLi.

Not this board, only crossfire. And no luck with the patch either. I really wish the mod of this hack could help me out. I mean the second card IS going to good use as physx/folding monster, BUT I want to sli so bad I can taste it.

ps... board is p67a-ud3p

You won't see the certificate anywhere, including everest. But if you booted with the sli-enabled option, and have 2 cards, you should be able to select sli in cp. The slihack works very well for me on my p45 chipset, and with 266.58 drivers.

Here's Mafia II at 1920x1200, all max settings, and I've only got sli gtx285s

Sli is working great!

@johnspack: yes, you can be happy! I think all GPUs older than the GTX 480 (so let's say no FERMI cards just working fine...)

Is somebody here around who can activate SLI on any FERMI based GPU?

I tried again today, but no luck... :-(

P45 based P5Q Pro Turbo with GTX470's... works like a dream.

SLI on X48

I have used the latest patch SLIP-V1.0 Final on a MSI X48 platinum motherboard. I have been successful in SLI on EVGA 465 cards with a bridge it will not SLI without it. I am using the latest 266.58 drivers and in benchmarking with Stalker COP Ultra DX11 1680X1050 all settings high I was getting 18.5 on day with a max of 82.3. Same set up after SLI I now get 31.4 on day with a max of 147.7 game play now has improved in all my titles which is more important than the bench. I have been running with the one card since Aug and after reading your post I decided to get another card and give it a try that first attempt did not work so I ordered a bridge and after installing it everything has worked fine ever since.

okay - I will try to get another SLI bridge for my both GTX 580. Maybe that's the final reason. Right now I'm trying to use the one I bought originally from Lenovo for 2x Quadro FX4800.

But aren't all SLI bridges (at least for 2 cards) exactly the same?!

Or is the problem based on my Intel 5520 chipset? Don't forget, I have these BSOD and Greyscreen-bugs as long as the SLIpatch is booted... :-(

So no one knows how to help me huh? I'm just out of luck then I guess.

have you enabled ACPI in bios? if not then enable it and re-instal OS then try patch and newest drivers.

also your board has 1x16 and 1x4 lane slots, this might be a problem, as the x4 slot might not have enough bandwidth, for SLI, although i think it should dtill work.

also make sure you have an SLI connector and not a crossfire connector, they a differant and can harm your cards.

also remove the sli connector, and re- fit it making sure it is snug and tight, do it a couple of times, to maybe clear the copper contacts.

of course do this when the computer is powered down

I am with the last post as when I first installed the second gtx465 card without a SLI bridge I had read that it was not necessary but I found that all my games would start run for a very short time than crash to the desktop. I ran it as a phyx card until I picked up a bridge and after I installed that SLI has worked perfect ever sense run Metro for hours black ops no problem my experience has been very good hope this may help. I did not do any thing special was already running 266.58 drivers just installed the second card worked fine as a phyx than as SLI.

I can't understand why this patch won't work. IT says it's installed right, it updates right, I get the slipatch option at boot up..... but then this!?!?

I have an sli connector installed, Have tried ABSOLUTELY every possible thing to do to make this work. It's obviously some conflict with either the chipset, or my motherboard selectively.
