Ok heres my setup i have 2 hdds, on my main i had vista installed and after that i installed windows 7 on the 2nd for a dual boot.

I needed to do a reinstall of the vista drive, and now of course my windows 7 installation isnt being detected, is there a way i can manually edit the boot.ini or some other way i can have the new installation of vista find wondows 7 without having to use a different boot manager ?

Cant even find the boot.ini for vista all i can find is boot.bak and bootmgr :(

Have you tried just typing in "msconfig" into the search bar of vista after you click start?
However, I am not too entirely sure I understand your question

im not too sure i understand your response, i have run msconfig, theres no way that i know to edit the boot manager from there

use easyBCD, vista dosent use a boot.ini. you can install the bootloader to the win7 drive if you wish using that program

its not another bootloader, it basically manages the vista one

+1 Its what I use, and as has been said, its just a light weight, freeware app that creates an easy to use GUI for editing Vista and Windows 7's Boot file.

It can be done through command prompt, but EasyBCD is as the name suggests :)

The free VistaBootPro is what you want - it's a boot manager on steroids, all menu driven and everything.

Grab it from here: www.vistabootpro.org
