I'm happy someone asked that, seeing 3.5GB of RAM listed makes me think its single channel and that will hurt performance.

Do you mind explaining that?

I have 3.25GB in my computer, but what is this you are talking about that will hurt performance?
are you talking about this in device manager?

I doubt you have 3.25GB of memory. You probably really have 4GB but are being limited by the 32-bit OS.

3 sticks of 1GB, and 1 stick of 256MB

Cheapest way with your setup may be to get yourself a decent sound card. Aside from freeing up a bit of CPU power for your sounds you will unlock all the high end sounds into your gaming experience and unlike every other type of PC gaming component, sound card will last you giving satisfactory performance for years.

I'm very skeptical of this. How does relieving the CPU of sound computations help with Overall FPS increase? :wtf: I understand it's a few less calculations but I highly doubt there's a noticeable increase with a sound card, less a cheaper sound card.

Your FPS are mostly impacted by your Graphics Processor! Secondary is the cpu followed by the efficiency of the ram/OS functionality.

i agree the first one is gpu then cpu

also turn off all the extra services in the background to free up cpu some cpu usage

So, I am playing Warhammer (The MMO) right now and my frames are horrible. I get stutters, I have to put everything on low res, I even overclocked my graphics card and it got rid of some of the FPS lag.

So here are my PC specs:
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+
2.31 GHz, 3.50 GB of RAM
Nvidia 8600 GT

What is the cheapest way to improve my FPS in games such as WoW, TF2 and Warhammer.

Im not sure on Warhammer as i have not played it, but i play Dawn of war and i play it on MAX settings and i start off around 75FPS but in a big fire fight can get down to almost 20-30FPS with my current set up<

The 8600GT should run most games of today at medium settings, i have one still, and i find it plays anything, just not on High settings, so you should be getting better fps then what you are IMHO. How many Processors are running in the back ground? 20-30 is good.

You haven't said what OS you are running or if you are running a 939 or a AM2 rig? this will help to determine how far you can go with your CPU upgrade as i think its a good idea to get a CPU above 2.6Ghz these days, otherwise your CPU is ok, but a slight upgrade would help. But most of all a GPU upgrade would be your cheapest and best bet, like people are saying a 8800GT would be a very cheap and a big improvement in your FPS for sure (more then double the performance easy) ebay is the best place for older hardware, have a look ;)

I would check your system over as it doesn't sound like its performing as good as it should, when was the last time you defraged the system or even reinstalled windows? and get the latest drivers also, including the AMD dual core optimizer.

Your RAM should be fine, as you wont see a big difference in performance if its in dual channel or not, but if your running XP then 2GB is more then enough and you then might be able to run it in dual channel ;)

Please fill out your specs on the side< so we can help you out faster and give you better ideas on what to get or do to your system to make it run better :) Thanks :toast:

People say that it doesnt take more than WoW, but Warhammer isnt an optomized game. It has alot of CPU/GPU and memory leaks. But alot of ppl say it runs just fine, but they usually have high end computers.

I was told that my vid card was a decent one, not the best, but it def improved my gameplay now im looking for more.

Ill go on the look for an 8800 GT, if its cheap, if not, then I guess its no more gaming for me.

On the other hand, is my processor and my PC specs fine? Or could they use an upgrade as well?
Do you have Windows XP? If so, you need the "Dual Core Optimizer."

Perhaps your computer is bloated?

If I had to put money on the problem, I'd say the Brisbane processor just ain't cutting it anymore.

I put the game at the highest settings at a resolution of 1280x960

Never drops below 20, even when busting people in the head lol. But this game will bored me to death, not my cup of tea. If i was the OP, i would just buy a more powerful video card , but also do a fresh install of the OS.

But over 30 would be too fast for you anyways u2k right? :laugh: (btw, do you really think you're a celebrity?)

1. socket 939 or AM2?
2. Drivers (AMD DC opt.), Defrag, spyware/virus
3. Dual channel RAM

upgrades... with a good budget (ex. 300~400$) = 720BE + Biostar 128M 790GX + 4830 + (optional) 4GB good ddr2 1066 RAM

720BE = ~135$
Biostar 128M 790GX = ~105$
saphire 4830 = ~90$ - 10MIR
RAM = ~45$

Total = 375$

Worked for me when running:

4000+ Athlon
2 Gig Ram
X1900XT 256MB Card

Back then, the major gaming that got done on my rig was BF2 and everything was geared towards improving the performance on that. When I added my Xi-Fi to the above rig I got around 5-7 Frames Per Second Improvement plus unlocked the High End Xi-Fi sounds in the game.
