how to tell if the windows xp 64bit i bought is 64bit not 32bit

I got my 6300 to 5ghz on the AM4 stock cooler. Your issue is either a dud chip or PEBCAK.
I remember overclocking the FX 6100 to 5.4 on a hyper 212+. That was a lot of fun, but man the performance stank. IF you had one of the boards that forced one thread per core instead of 2, it performed better, but still not great.

It's insane until you read his post history of not listening to advice. He's spent more money trying to keep his current spec going than it would be to do a proper, newer build.
Fair enough. If such is the case, I retract my objection.

That's a diamond in the rough. Most of the first gen FX Chips where hard pressed for 4.8ghz let alone 5ghz.

I'm not saying the voltage was a bit pant shattingly high, but.....

Get a(t least a partial) refund. That is not the (WinServer2003-derived) 64-bit version of XP. Also, you will likely have issues w/ an SP1 .ISO/CD on a later-model build like AMD FX.

If you're insistent on factory-physical media for air gapped security* or collector's value, you'll need to find a proper listing for an X64 version.

Also, don't forget to prepare a floppy or floppy-emulated flash drive w/ your drivers for 'F6 Integration' at install. Otherwise, you'll be stuck in IDE-compatibility mode w/ no NCQ, etc.

BTW, there is an NVMe driver for XP x64. https://retrosystemsrevival.blogspot.com/2019/11/nvme-express-15-windows-xp-driver.html
Not sure if there's any way to make it bootable but, a basic SLC - MLC SATA SSD for boot and a cheap 1+TB NVMe would still make for a 'Cool AF' XP setup. :D

If the key starts with FCKGW chances are it is 32bit and the key is no good :p

I got no scsi nor a raid. I plan leave xp 64 or 32 on the 120 sata ssd... you think it'll be too small? Even installing all those mechwarrior and mdk classics may suffice?

I would boot WinPE and run WinNTSetup3 to verify the information.

(AFAIK) Still will need the SATA controller driver(s) for AHCI compatibility. I know from experience that an old SSD is even slower stuck in IDE mode.

It might end up a bit small, after you get it loaded up. But... A lot of those games were a *fraction* of the size games are today.
More an issue for games where you need to keep the CD/DVD image alongside it, for mounting.

It's also worth noting that not all NT/2000/XP compatible games will 'play nice' on Win XP x64 (because of its derivation from WS2003)

If you *really* want the best x86-only XP experience, a system derived from the Core Solo/Core Duo would be 'ideal, full compatibility, max performance'.
[I've been on/off chasing an oddball ATI chipset S478 board w/ Core Duo Mobile support]
Sure, you can even run 98SE on Nehalem, but Xeon ULV 'Sossaman' was the last (and fastest) non-AMD_64 (x86 only) CPU.

Considering this is an OS that hasn't been sold for almost two decades at this point, may I suggest simply downloading whatever version you figure should work and use the keys that you can just literally google instead of buying a physical disk.

That's getting dangerously close to piracy...which is something that this forum doesn't tolerate well.

On the flip side...all of this hardware is officially in the "so old that it now costs a premium to purchase." The last Windows XP x64 install I had done successfully was on a socket 2011 board...in 2011. I'd suggest maybe this was about some truly ancient software that did not run outside of an equally ancient OS...but you're running this on an FX chip. There's a part of me that wants to help...and another part of me that sees this as an absolutely mad attempt to resurrect an ancient system. Sometimes, dead is better. I know that finding some drivers in XP x64 was miserable...and somebody out there is choosing to do it in 2024 when windows 10 and 11....to quote another artist...just work.

Only if it's "(likely) actionable".

By all definitions Windows 1.0-3.x, 9x/Me, and XP are all 'abandonware'. MSFT has 0 interest in any continuing-associations with those products, and (AFAIK) have not even offered Paid Extended Support, for years now.
Even, the Embedded versions of those OSes are long EoL (which, were 'active' for years after the non-embedded versions lost support)

NtM, I've had staff talk about Windows LTSC activators, and how MSFT purposefully played 'fast and loose' with their own License Enforcement to get Window 10 LTSC out and onto as many devices as possible.
-and that the owner of TPU has confidence in partnering w/ (select) Key sites.

Some of us enjoy the challenge, and have a sense of pride about making the 'unsupported' work. [Like booting Win7proX64 off a 58GB P1600X Optane, in a dual S940 K8N-DL's Gen1x1 slot]
Such, used to be assumed in this field of 'PC Enthusiasts'.

If there's anything 'wrong' with what OP is pursuing, I'd say that it's the FX+XP combo. Support is going to be 'wonky'; maybe saved by AMD (re-)using very similar '-bridge'(PCH/MCH, etc.) uArch thru the generations.

As I recall, AMD (at least Bulldozer's) FX single-core IPC was damned-near *worse* than Phenom IIs,
and
IIRC, Core Duos could meet-beat the Phenom I and Phenom II derived Turions/Mobile Phenoms.
[Part of the reason people were seeking Core Duo and Core 2 Duo mobile supporting desktop boards, back then (and today). For an HTPC/SFF PC, they were the best]

Using Linux? I tried it quick moment 2 days ago, even installed obs on ubuntu. Here's a dmesg of my adapter after disconecting it from usb 2.0 then, reconnecting it to a usb hub connected to usb port 3.1 gen 1.

I edited my 1st reply, but this is probably a worthwhile and highly-related (freshly published) watch

@ This point in time, I'd want my XP system Offline, or have it being a dual-boot affair w/ all network connectivity disabled/uninstalled in the XP install.
[Alternatively, a used but still-supported hardware firewall might be 'sufficient'. There's also prolly ready-made projects to turn a R.Pi/SBC into a firewall appliance (PiHole, comes to mind)]

Yeah there's not really a choice. If networked it can be a local NAS but you can't give it a gateway and expect things to not happen. This makes anything I use that relies on DHT or other file sharing a complete loss. WinXP is good in this era for one thing and that's running apps that straight up refuse to run on anything newer. At that point just dump it in a VM. It's not worth fighting drivers and other junk over a bare metal install. This means any flavor of 2003 is also a loss. Personally I find 2012R2 to be the absolute max age Windows version to put on a network. If you have access to that media, it might be worth the pain but I'll stick to 2016 until something forces me out.

i don't plan installing realtek lan drivers unless i know what I'm doing.
anyway xp 32bit didn't work and not planing geting xp64bit just now, I'm thinking the usb dongle might be faulty? tho it installs as fine on device manager. I tried virtualdub on xp32bit with the cable connected to the dongle but no source found still. OBS doesn't work on xp at all.
-what I'm thinking is it might work with the tvcenter app from the makers, pctv systems, but is a paid program. so I'll update thread after i buy or activate it.
