It pointless to get a board with AGP or a crappy sempron when you can get a whicked cheap PCI-E and Brisbane for super cheap with high performence

Nothing wrong with getting a sempron for temporary use. They OC well. I'm about to get a 30dollar cheapo semporn, get it naked, and overclock the hell out of it. I would get a brisbane but I'm jobless and in college right now. I'll get a brisbane when I get some more cash, but I'll be more than happy to be using ANY cpu right now besides my xbox.

Well its like, instead of spending 30 on a crap proc, wait a little while and have one that will last.

Everything looks good dude! The cooling though, is all kinds of bad. Ill look for one

I think I'm gonna go over the $300 budget.

well I cant find any cooler for AM2 thats decent on newegg, weird. But the only thing is the board is by ECS, bad bad company. The combo deal is great though, if you can find a cheaper combo deal then go for that.

Why not save up a few more $ (hundreds) like $1000 then buy a decent computer like me or Fox.

That may be your best bet.

I can't do that one, J-Man, I need something inexpensive, because I am only 14, and I don't have a job yet. I've already got $75 saved up for it.

with your budget and situation try the "for sale" forum and pick up some bargins there to help you get the most out of your $ especially as far as the video card goes. the way it is going, the video card is becoming the most expensive and most important part of your computer.

The video card used sounds like good idea, but I think you should get the AM2 proc/mobo combo

Plans got changed on my end. This is the hardware that I am going to go with, no exceptions.

ASUS A7V133-VM Motherboard (socket a) - getting it for free from a friend
AMD Athlon XP 1900+ 1.6GHz - $36*
768MB PC100 (512MB + 256MB) - $50*
nVidia GeForce4 MX4000 128MB - (at walmart) $50*
Western Digital 40GB - $33*
Crystal SoundFusion CS4281 WDM Audio Sound card - found it in my box of scrap stuff (still works tho)

I bought all of the parts today (June 10) (except the freebies, I got them last nite)
*all prices are rounded

Dude, that was, not to be mean, the worst idea ever.

Could have bought my ram for like 20 bucks in that thread. The socket a and proc are terrible technology. I found that that video card at the dump, it wont run anything new at all. You could have bought a good AM2 system. The one you just got you cannot upgrade at all either. Should have listened to us man.

oh, another happy day!
so lets see, you upgraded your shit emachine to a rig (almost) as shitty. and now, il bet that just liek your other (celeron) shit rig, you are going to try and oc it to some huge clock, and you are going to burn it, then bitch and moan and spam about how overlocking is bad and how it is asus's fault that you are too retarded to use the clock control feature.

dude, i am 14 too. quite using that excuse. i own 3 (main, powerful, i have countless other lower end experimentals) including, a home made mid-upper range modern desktop, a brand new toshiba M400 tablet pc, with 1gb of ddr2 667 ram, and a core 2 duo t5600 proc, and another mid range notebook (for programming). all of these (except for the notebook), i paid for with my own money. i saved up, and saved up. with the desktop, i saved up for each individual part, and upgraded like that.

you obviously do not have the smarts to do any remotely technical with a computer.

Del has some good deals. you don't need much for what you want to do. just get a cheap dell, and don't fuck with it. the bios is locked, so you cant possibly hurt anything.

look, THESE systems will do all you want, they only go about $60 over your range, and unless you physically do something to it, you aren't going to be able to fuck it up.

just do us all a favor, and get a dell.

Well, I didn't want to be rude about it but, thats kinda of what I'm trying to say. You could have got a lot better and actually upgradeable system if you saved. I'm 16 and bought my system, age is no excuse as AX said.

yeah. i know, i was kinda blunt, but if i wasn't he wouldn't listen.:)

This thread was pretty much pointless and a waste of everyone's time as he failed to listen to any of the sound advice that was given here.

Btw, like Fox and ax said, blaming your age for your shortcomings and lack of planning/insight is very immature. You should consider getting a job (like doing more chores around the house for more money), or save up for a few months, etc.

Well said anticlutch :toast:

you dont have to be an asshole over this. my other pc wasnt an emachine, it was in an emachine case. next, my celeron one wasnt a shitty computer, it was quite nice, but I screwed it up. next, i am done with overclocking. and lastly, just cuz dell locks their bios doesnt mean anything.

I plan on running Office 2003, Windows XP Home, Nero 6 Ultra Edition, Alcohol 120%, TuneUp 2007, iTunes, and some other things.

Yes. I plan on playing The Sims 2 and all EPs, Battlefield 2 and all EPs, Medal of Honor, NFS Most Wanted, The Movies, RollerCoaster Tycoon 1, 2, and 3, and some more with steep specs.

You will have to play them on very low settings with the budget you have m8 :(

All my games are on medium settings. (except games that dont have a setting like RCT1 and RCT2

Not being funny, but thats a total stinker of a rig.......you should have saved your cash and got at least an half decent system....you wont be playing any games on that, the technology is way too old!

TPU is made up of some great members with extensive knowledge of whats hot and whats not (your new system being the latter), you should have listened to them!

i know that socket a is pretty old, and everything on this computer is out of date, but, it was cheap, and no cash was looking my way for a while. I can play games on it, cuz my amd t-bird system (950mhz, 312mb ram, 10gb) would play RCT1 and 2, and the sims 2 (no expansion pack)

If you happy playing old games on poor quality settings then fair play to you m8.

But sometimes you have to be patient to get what you want, ie saving your cash for 'X' amount of time to be able to afford a good system.

EDIT: actual Im not being fair, your young, you will learn ;)
