I need RAM that does ~DDR2-1000 for CHEAP

Hey everyone. The title pretty much says it all. I need 4GB of RAM that can do around 500MHz (DDR2-1000). My E8400 is at 4GHz (9*450) right now but I don't want to limit myself in the future.

Oh, and if possible, I'd really love for the sticks to be black. And I don't want to spend alot either. I'd really love to spend $30. I know that's alot to ask for. I've seen lots of DDR2-800 cas5 kits for that price, but I dunno if those kits can get to DDR2-1000 since they're already cas5.

So I'd love to get some recommendations on something that is known to clock that high. Thanks! :)

anything that uses micron D9 chip should do that...so look for crucial ballistix,Buffalo firestix, cellshock or high end gskill or geil should work

You can't get 2GB sticks with D9s if I'm not mistaken.

@OP

Today is your lucky day though. I just put my old Adata ram into my FS thread like then minutes ago. They do 1066 5-5-5-15 2.2v I'm asking for $30 plush shipping (Shouldn't be more than $5 though) If you're interested shoot me a PM.

I have a set of G.Skill 2x2GB (blue) 1066 Cl5 2.0v, runs solid, does up to around 900 at CL4 for many, I've hit just over 1120 with them at 2.1v. The price has gone up a little on them, but they are solid performers. There's some Fatality stuff that's 30 after MIR. Keep looking and you'll find what you need! I'm sure some better recommendations will show up too!

:toast:

Hey i have some 2x2GB Gskill 1000mhz 5-5-5-15 drop me a PM ill give em to you for $30 shipped

any good brands with overclock and 800 FSB will be enough , like OCZ , CROSSAIR , GSKILL , KINGSTON
i have kingston cheap rams and i control it well with my overclock from 800 to 1200 just do some changes in latency sometimes and my rams is most cheap one see this

Ok, thanks for all the feedback guys.

I have another question. Does 4x1GB OC just as good as 2x2GB? Or will having 4 sticks hurt my OCing? I don't plan on any insane OCing, I'd be pretty happy if I could hit a 500MHz FSB.

from my experiance 4 sticks will kill your overclock,or at least make it harder to get where u wanna be

I haven't seen anything that shows 4 1GB sticks restricting OC potential. Hear-say in my opinion.

I isnt hear say, its fact. 4X1GB kits cause more stress to the NB than do a 2X2GB kit as all 4 DIMM slots are not used. Do a bit more reading as this is easy to test on your own if you have both setups. I've actually had boards, this DK included that doesnt like to run well at all with all 4 slots populated.

Yeah, from what I've heard, 4 sticks isn't as good as OCing.... Just wanted some other opinions. I don't mean to disregard your opinion Ozz, but I'm going to play it safe and stick with 2x2GB

I saw that Patriot Viper kit too. That's the kit I was leaning on but I didn't know if there was any better stuff out there. And the reason I wanted black sticks is because the inside of my case is black and my mobo is black so I thought that blue RAM would look kinda out of place. I know- I'm color coordinating my computer.

How far will a kit like this OC? It's already at CAS5, which kinda worries me. If these can get to 500MHz, they'd be perfect. A few reviews said they got ~425MHz, 1 guy said he had 480MHz, and another said he had trouble getting 533MHz stable. But you know how newegg reviews are...

Ok so here's what I have so far:
  • This if they can clock well
  • This because they're cheap and good
  • This becasue they're cheap and good
  • This because Ballistix is the coolest word ever and that yellow is awesome! (My DIMM slots are yellow so they still match ;)) I know they're expensive, but I'm sure they could clock up if let up on the timings. (right??)

Looks ok? Thanks again.

i have 4x2GB of D9HNP i have seen these chips do 1066 CL6 @1.94v they are rated to 800 CL6. i only want $60 for the lot.

Get some Geil Black Dragon PC8500.

However, some boards thrive at 4x1GB. My old Maximus Formula loved 4x1GB. I took my 4x1GB Firestix to 1300mhz on that board. I've never seen a 2x2GB kit ever do that. Though I do realize this isn't the norm.

Capacity of the sticks play a big part in that, but I do agree my Blood Iron will handle whatever config I used very well.

OMG you are FAR too picky  You can't have everything, you wanted cheap, those sticks are cheap, should reach PC8000 speeds around 2.25v, are black, and even have a nice symbol, and your complaining about 2 tiny red LED lights? :wtf:

I think the main complaint is they are out of stock currently.:(

Loads of places stock the V1 Black Dragons, a quick google search would reveal lots of places ;)
