Its a clash of the titans, 4870x2 and gtx295 aren't far off from each other by price and maybe in some cases performance, but since 4890x2 is going to be released later on, I rather have the latest card from one company than the second best because this is alot of money for me and a one chance at getting one of the best and most expensive cards right now.

Be prepared to be surprised, or not, by what I order tomorrow ^^

If you're prepared to go the GTX295 then go it for sure. It currently beats the 4870X2 in enough to call it an open and shut victory, even if a 4890X2 lands (not even announced) it will probably par a GTX295 anyway, not to mention running these babies stock is disgraceful, and overclocked they stretch their legs amazingly.

EDIT: here is what most 295 owners would call a mild to medium overclock, at my max stable oc, the oc min fps is higher than stock avg fps.

They're all the same really apart from warranties :) Its all nvidia's design with different labels and warranty.

I need to read lol, it says it right here http://www.itestate.com.au/pages/pr...aces?BeanName=productDetailAction&pcode=06663

so yep 3 years... that is awesome, this looks like a worthy buy.

EDIT: WOW, 6 pages of deciding. I'd like to thank everyone who helped out making my decision easier, I'd also like to point out that at start I did have a certain budget since I was planning to buy a protools sound card but that idea has been held back now and price is really no issue so I may as well get the best at the moment.

Randomflip what kind of advantage do you think your going to get with a GTX295? Never mind synthetic benches. Do you really believe in game the price is justified? 800 bucks is as much as my whole system cost. Unless you're getting 1000 FPS in Crysis and thats the only game you play then I really cant see the justification for a GTX295.

3 yrs warranty, the fastest gpu in the world atm which would be enough to last me years and years as all I'd have to do is add another one in the future if i upgrade. The advantage of only having to really spend 350AUD for the gtx295 itself as my two 4850's cover more than half of the price and i do receive income believe it or not.

Also the peace of mind that I'm going to enjoy 100% of gaming experience with future games as well as present releases. For people who work this is chump change, there are plenty of people at my age (20) spending their money on rims for their car for twice the price of a gtx295, expensive paint jobs etc. etc. what would rims justify for a car? to me its exactly the same concept, only more geeky. :D

There are benefits no matter how I look at it, the only reason I considered cheaper alternatives was because I was in a budget as I mentioned but again me and my friend have decided to call off learning and getting the hang of pro tools meaning I don't have to spend 500 - 2k AUD on a entry/studio level sound card just yet.

This is a hobby for me and I finally get to critic a high end GPU. I've moved from ati radeon 9550 -> 3650 -> 4850 -> 4850xfire and now gtx295

All of those have been a big leap step by step and now this is the next big leap I plan to take except this time there are no sacrifices :). Anyway to add, I'm sure many aussies know of this but a stimulus package(950 AUD) is being handed out to the students/apprentices/workers/low income families etc. etc. to try and strengthen the economy, I'm mainly just doing my part for the economy by keeping many etailers in business. :D Rather than spending it on pokies >.>

Well if it makes you happy then have at it. :toast: I just have a feeling you are not going to see the gains you expect for the money.

As for managing money......don't get me started. I could write a whole thread on how to save, make and protect your income. Buying a top end GPU for its asking price ISNT one of them. HOWEVER you have to "live" so enjoy your new card. No sarcasm ether. ;)

sorry just gonna bump instead of starting a new thread.

currently I'm getting a result of

16810 GPU score at vantage performance preset, Its bottlenecked a little bit its also at its stock clocks atm. This is with my Q6600 at 3.6ghz.

I'm gonna need some tips on some overclocking this card? Also with monitoring temps!

yeah, ur bottlenecked but use THIS method to figure it out... It will show you where and when (and by how much) you are CPU bottlenecked.

I had a Q6600 with my dual (massively overclocked) 260's and I would get 17K GPU... then i went to a 4Ghz E8500 and am now getting 20K GPU. The Q might be having issues feeding that monster fast enough. TBH you will not be seeing much of a difference in games tho... not unless you get an E8600 and clock it to 4.6+Ghz

Ok overclocked a bit more

648 Core
1542 shaders
1202 Memory

Guess what? :D .... 19308 P preset score on vantage :D, better than 16810

Well so far I average a 40 - 60 in Crysis Wars multiplayer at dx10 maxed out no aa, compared to my 4850 crossfire which averaged 25fps - 40 fps at that setting.

I'm very happy I bought this card, lots of people in my crysis forum has told me that I would not get much from buying a gtx295 because I'm 'only' using a q6600 and a 22inch monitor. I admit there is bottlenecking happening but only slight.

12000+ GPU score with 4850 crossfire

19000+ GPU score with gtx295

Exactly the performance I expected with my Q6600 and p45 mobo, gtx295 for the cost of adding another 4850 lol.

EDIT: I'm still getting the hang of evga precision and so far I bumped the clocks I posted before by 50mhz more and my windows just crashed.

You might want to try upping the voltage a little in EVGA Voltage Tool. Also increasing fan speed as well.
