I don't believe it will end any time soon and think even Q4 of 2022 is too optimistic. We're becoming more and more reliant on electronics almost to the point where you can't turn on a light or flush a toilet without it. Plus it should also be noted that manufacturing has gone from building durable goods that last & are easily repairable to cheap throw-away products.
It just boggles my mind to think of the tech that we have available to us nowadays & how a lot of the stuff we make ends up in a landfill somewhere after only a couple of years.

Biggest shortages for GPU's are:

A) Sellers not taking immediate, definitive action to stop scalpers/bots/hoarders
B) People stupido enough to pay outrageous prices for the cards...
C) see A above
D) see B above

just boycott them until the prices come back down :)
paying craazy prices are mostly idiotic miners i think.

imo it will be a few years. It's not going to happen next year.
The shortages are caused by several factors:

Miners hoarding gaming GPUs to mine crypto.

A shortage of components that go on a PCB to make a card as Huang has said months ago.

A huge rise in demand caused by the Pandemic causing people to be stuck at home and they are looking for entertainment from gaming because they are bored.

Transportation issues caused by the Pandemic.

Lack of fabs to meet demand. This should change in a few years as new fabs come online.

The parasite scalpers will have to be dealt with eventually. They won't stop buying up almost all of the available cards using bots and forcing gamers to go through them or go without unless they are forced to.
Transport problems are not big issue any more, this is BS.

You'd be wrong.
i think there are 0,0000001% of stupid majors who will buy for PURE gaming. more are "resellers"

It was for some time though, and the impacts of that take some time to subside.

As for the rest of his post, seems spot on to me.

You honestly think people are paying scalping prices to "resell?"

Q1/Q2 of 2022 is a good bet, since next gen happends in Q3/Q4, not many will be picking up AMPERE or RDNA2 by then. I don't know anyone who still are waiting for a GPU. Everyone recieved their card by now.

Vaccines are being rolled out everywhere, summer is here meaning people play less and GPU mining is not where it was 3-6 months ago. Much less profitable.

I can wait till 2023-2024 tho. I will upgrade when we see true next gen stuff. Both Intel and AMD launches next gen in 2022, then I will wait for 2023 at least for 2nd generation with issues and drivers fixed before I build a complete new system, for the first time in many years.

This is also the timeframe where we will see true next gen games, made for PS5 and XSX without supporting last gen consoles (aka holding games back) and this will affect PC gaming bigtime.

Exactly!
I read this entire thread waiting for someone to touch on these very points. Well done!
Finally someone reading the tea leaves for what they ARE and WILL be rather than what they were.
We have all heard ad nauseam why prices are high and supply is constrained.

Q1 to Q2 2022 btw.

Prices will Drop when Demand Drops >>>>> as to when Not predictable.
New Product lines will take their place and "Old Stock" May result in a Price reduction for old stock
and of course that new stock/product lines will still be sky high
Then its another Round of Whingeing

I feel like it will take forever. I am kinda accepting the fact that if my card dies right now, I will have to settle for a HD7970 or something like that. No way I can spend 500-600 EUR for a GPU. Let alone something more. Next on the chopping board are HDDs. Whether mining on them is good or bad idea, just watch what happens with high-volume HDDs in the next few months. If you will be building a NAS, I'd jump the gun right now.

Scalpers do not cause shortages, scalpers are a side effect of shortages.
With enough merchandise in stock, no one would give an inflated ebay price a second thought.

Scalping should be made illegal imo!!!! Buying up every single product at release to hold their own personal monopoly, its infuriating.

it is illegal.....but comes with certain stipulations for people involved to actually be prosecuted. for ex, the asshats who bought up massive supplies of hand sanitizer at the start of the pandemic and then tried to sell it for an inflated price. people who buy out stuff like generators or bottled water during hurricanes or ice storms that leave thousands if not millions without power and running water.....and then try to sell them for inflated prices. the difference, no one is going to have a worse life if they cannot play Cyberpunk at 4K with ray tracing.....rightfully so, no one in the government is going to give a shit about scalping video game type products. those examples would also be considered price gouging, more or less the same thing as scalping but doesn't always require buying up additional or large supplies, it just requires increasing the selling price by a large value (like a GPU going for 4X's it's MSRP!). scalping of all products should be illegal, but my point is there are much much much more serious things for regulating bodies of the government to worry about instead of you getting the latest graphic card for your gaming PC.

link for the hand sanitizer example since that one was so recent and was easy to find

that sounds like the age old saying of which came first, the chicken or the egg? did scalpers make the shortage, or did the shortage make the scalpers?

When I was a kid, scalpers revolved around cinemas. For many movies, they didn't have a business, they would only make a buck when demand for a movies was high, tickets sold out quickly and late comers only had scalpers to deal with. They could never buy the tickets for the whole cinema to force you to buy at inflated prices.

Maybe you don't have to keep on telling people to stop discussing an important thing if you think this is a "troll thread" do what you want you to want to believe but keep it to yourself. It ain't nice to tell people what they want to discuss I'm here reading what they say and think. If you believe I'm just a "troll" believe what you want to believe but leave your thoughts in your head let them discuss until the end.

A "what do you think" wrt video cards subject is never important ;)
It can be mildly interesting, at best.

It ain't nice to tell people what they want to discuss I'm here reading what they say and think. If you believe I'm just a "troll" believe what you want to believe but leave your thoughts in your head let them discuss until the end.
Caring has a right to an opinion and does not need to keep it to themselves; you asked for opinions, they will not always be what you want to hear.

You do have a fact everybody has a voice and opinion but I'm only asking for the positive opinions not the negative ones. I'm not saying that he should stop with this opinion but merely try to share it in a more complex and explained way again you have a point but I do also have a point as well. we'll have to agree to disagree that we are correct. I only want constructive criticism not a complaint like "this is a troll thread not important" not the best way to tell a criticism it sounds like a person who scoffs by saying it in reality. Again not saying your wrong but you have a point though you need to understand that the way he said isn't the best way.
