System Name l2aZor
Processor intel core2duo E4400
Motherboard intel dg965ry
Cooling air cooled
Memory 2gb 800Mhz kingston
Video Card(s) sapphire hd3850 512mb
Storage seagate 500gb sataII
Display(s) lg 15" lcd
Case normal...:P
Audio Device(s) onboard high definition audio(IDT Audio)
Power Supply bundled with the case..:D
Software windows vista ultimate 32bit
i have an intel core2duo e4400 processor running on intel dg965ry motherboard...
i got 2 gb ram on dual channel and an HD 3850...
the idle temp of my cpu is 55C(which i think is too much for a 65nm cpu on idle)
..and even if it reaches 78C while gaming the fan speed doesnt go up...
fan is constantly running at 1000-1100 rpm irrespective of the cpu temperature....
i'm not able to get wat the prob is...plz help guys..
the cooler is the stock intel cooler...

You probably have to go into your motherboard's BIOS and find the option for fan speed control. Just set it to run at 100% all the time.

in the bios i hev only 2 settings viz. processor zone response and processor zone damping...i fiddled with all the settings but no use...its still running at 1000 rpm

help me guys i'm not able to overclock due to this problem...

You're not really going to overclock anyways with a stock cooler......

But if you insist on using it for OC then go into the BIOS and turn off anything related to auto fan speeds.

try and get speedfan...

hmm i recken you need to buy an aftermarket cooler to overclock but maybe you should ask intel if this is a common problem

Definately buy an aftermarket cooler; I just stuck a Thermaltake Golden Orb II onto an E6400 and it reduced the idle temps by about 7 - 10 degrees. 55 is waaaaay too high for 65nm, it should be at most high 30s.

I know this might seem like a cheap solution, but you could try plugging the fan into one of the other 3-pin headers on the board, that should make it run at full blast.

I'm gonna try that:D^

OC'ing with your Intel motherboard? Not going to happen.

You could try software OC'ing, using SetFSB. But I doubt your stock C2D heatsink would be very happy with that.

Make sure your C2D heatsink/fan is plugged into the fan header that is located at the edge of the motherboard, in between the CPU socket and the memory slots.

In the BIOS you should have an "Advanced -> Boot Configuration Menu". There should be a BIOS value "System Fan Control". Set it to disabled. This should run your fan at 100%. It's a PWM fan so it won't be exactly at full speed, but close enough...

Be prepared to take on lots of dbs though. Intel stock cooler at maximum speed is really loud from my experience.

tried changing the jack in which cpu fan is plugged in...i chnaged that to the auxilliary fan socket....
but no use the aux fan which is now plugged into the cpu fan socket is now running at 2500rpm and cpu fan which is now plugged into the aux fan socket is still running at 1000-1100 rpm!!
alas!!!!!

but i've not tried the solution given by "NAFETS"....will surely try that and tell u...
and regarding the overclocking i just want a 500mhz overclock so as to remove the bottlenecking of my graphics card by the cpu....but due to the board being an intel..i'm not able to go beyond 235mhz fsb(from 200 default)...system hangs after that...(using setfsb to overclock)...plz suggest a solution to that also...

When you are overclocking, are you still getting the very high temperatures? If you are, that would be the reason why it is not going above 235 MHz.
Even a cheap cooler could replace your Intel cooler, and perform better than it, and it would be wise to look at an aftermarket cooler even for moderate overclocks.

I'd recommend a different motherboard if you're really into OC'ing your CPU. Money and efforts are just wasted, fooling around with an Intel board. :(

didnt find any setting like that...so my problem still persists...damm!!

alright guys heres wat i did....my cpu fan which is a 4 pinned fan...i just disconnected the 4th wire(speed control wire) so my fan i now a 3 pinned fan...further i put it into the jack of an auxilliary fan...so its now running at 2000 rpm at idle and goes upto 2700rpm at full load and my idle temperature is reduced to 45c(55c earlier) and full load temperature is reduced to 60c(78c earlier)...with a very little increase in noise levels...thank u guys for ur help...cheers!!!

Buy an aftermarket cooler. The processor in my specs fluctuates between 38c and 41c load when running at 1.35v, and that's with a bad application of lots of crappy zalman thermal paste.

does the quality of paste also matter? i'm not sure bcoz i'm using a local made thermal paste...and intel stock paste was worn out so i was not sure whether the paste makes a diff...so i applied a local made thermal paste...

yes it does matter. I have an overclocked 8600GTS with a Zalman VF900. Before I got my MX-2, I was using this no-name 10% silver paste my uncle gave me and I got about 65C load. Now that I have MX-2 paste instead of the no-name stuff on it I get 58C load.

oh man...plz recommend a thermal paste for my processor....upto 10$...

what's egg saver shipping :O I want that! xD

Hey fellow Indian (yup I'm Indian too xD) Go to a local shop and write down the choices you have as thermal paste... we can surely fine a good one from there! Also, you should consider the Xigmatek s1283 as a cooler... here that's about 40$ fan included
