No one here uses intergraded graphics.

That's coming from a guy who has an APU in his system specs. ;) I'm pretty sure a lot of people here do.

i used my 5800K and then my 7700K build for playing diverse games ... also used my HD5500 in some benches ... most of games where playable on low 768p no complaining (but i was a HD5500 not a HD4600)
and i did play on the laptop with the HD5500 (primarly FFXIV and Skyforge)

also as i said i played Eve Online for nearly a year on a GMA X3100

well .... the Radeon HD3200 wasn't a IGP (it's southbridge integrated) so this one count too ...

for what the HD4600 is worth head http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-HD-Graphics-4600.86106.0.html

too bad the only Intel worth IGP (Iris) are in expensive chips ... they got it a bit wrong

My Intel GMA X3100? Lmao, it'll play Minecraft at respectable rates with render distance down, but other than that, it's pretty useless. And even then, Minecraft beyond 1.7.2 won't run because it somehow requires OpenGL 2.1. As I said previously, Intel drivers just plain suck, and as a result, 2.1 is only available on Linux (2.0 on Windows). I'm not entirely sure why Minecraft jumped from requiring 1.5 to 2.1, but whatever.

I play GTA V on my PS3. I'm happy with that. I mainly use this for productivity.

I've got a few integrated GPUs, actually. Will be testing out an Intel Atom Z3735F with a few games here soon. My laptop has a i5 540m (I think) in it that does some gaming (VERY light though). Might also see if my new Xeon E5-12?? v2 workstation can do anything interesting.
Also have a Dell Venue 8 Pro, but that thing's been collecting dust recently. Did pretty well actually.

I still use integrated graphic on mostly cheap Intel system I build for donations. When I see DVMT graphic option i enable to Variable and Max also on systems with 4 gigs of memory. The thing I dont understand is when Intel makes mobos with Integrated 8megs gpu but it still run well. How the hell can it be only 8megs in todays demands??

the 8MB is dedicated so it has something to boot from and work in DOS/BIOS, and it uses system memory for everything else once the OS and drivers load.

because its only got 8MB. thats why it shows 8MB. the rest is borrowed from system ram, so it wont show.

my work laptop has HD 4400 graphics, they don't do so well against the Nucs we use that have the HD5500. It will certainly beat the old stuff and play a few games at low settings, but its not exactly their Iris pro series or anywhere near the AMD APUs.

I for one would love to see an A26 for sale like the PS4 has. That would net you slightly above R9-270 performance in a SOC granted the single threaded cpu performance would be terrible. On a laptop that might not be a big deal and you have to imagine that it would be cheaper than any of the nvidia mobile units (980m is 900$ for instance) as the PS4 sells for 400$. A sub 1000$ gaming laptop that can play everything at 720P and many titles at 1080P? I'd buy especially as that unit would outpace the 860m but a decent margin. Wonder what they'll do with Zen in this area? Would be nice to see a decent cpu pairing and them finally opening up more than 6 graphics compute units (such as in the A10) on consumer purchasable SOC's.

I'm thinking they will, honestly. Skylake's GT4e graphics configuration offers 576 ALUs (72 EUs), and Broadwell's GT3e (48 EUs) was already enough to outperform the A10-7870K's (512 ALUs) integrated graphics. Zen will need something interesting to take back the performance crown.

Judging by the previous iterations of the Iris Pro, it will also double the number of TMUs and ROPs from the next step down, making it at least 32 TMUs and 16 ROPs. Paired with fast DDR4, I can't wait for reviews of this, and I'm thinking we may also see a Core i3 processor with Iris graphics (perhaps Iris 540/550), since the Pentium G now got an upgrade to Core i7-6000 graphics on its higher tier line-up. It only makes sense for the Core i3 to offer the next step up.

P.S. - does anyone know how the HD 510 (Skylake-GT1) performs against Broadwell's HD Graphics (Broadwell-GT1), clock-for-clock? They both have 96 ALUs (12 EUs), but Skylake's has double the TMUs and ROPs.

Well so far I am running Starcraft 2, Diablo 3, Sims 4, Need for speed shift, Left 4 dead 2, call of duty modern warfare 2, hearthstone, heroes of the storm and darkspore and Major League Baseball all on low settings and all are smooth and playable. I never upgrade I just got this computer Christmas 2014. I am not a really big gamer but so far what I have takes care of everything I do.

On low settings. I used to be like you once a very long time ago. You don't know what you're missing until you have something better. With that list of games, I can say that even my old 6870 handled most of them pretty well.

Did you just want to know how the 4600 stacked up against others or was this more of a "should I upgrade" question?

On low settings. I used to be like you once a very long time ago. You don't know what you're missing until you have something better. With that list of games, I can say that even my old 6870 handled most of them pretty well.

Did you just want to know how the 4600 stacked up against others or was this more of a "should I upgrade" question?

I remember when I moved from laptop onboard crappy Intel to Desktop GT9600, I felt the same way - WOW is that what I have been missing? WOW I thought playing with lags will give you more time to react with NFS9 but now the gameplay becomes much smoother this game is sooo easy!!

And then I was more and more into eye candies, I enjoyed tweaking hardwares, spent probably longer time overclocking and running benchmarks than actually gaming, and the games I bought was those which puts more stress to the system.

I refused to play DOTA with my friends coz it looked crap (in the end I was still dragged into it xD).

Now that I stopped gaming for a few years - looking at your comment and looking back, I felt I was somehow happier playing on low settings, I was so damn happy that I could play F.E.A.R. on my crappy intel on all low (GM945 or something close).

: ) Well that's just me. not trying to argue or anything, just saying you've brought back some old memories of mine.

I first started on Intel Extreme Graphics on the 845G chipset. Imagine playing Warcraft 3 on that with 128MB of RAM on XP. That is the kind of thing I had to start with when I became old enough to own my own computer, an eMachine to be exact. Nothing makes you want to kick your computer more than that.

After becoming a very angry person with that machine, I upgraded the drivers and memory which was a little better but when I built my first computer with a 2.4Ghz Northwood Celeron, Radeon 9200, and 512MB of ram, did I understand what it meant to not have integrated graphics. In fact I still have that machine in the attic but it's not completely assembled. Last time I tried using it almost 6 years ago, it still worked.

Simple point is that you should upgrade from integrated graphics if you can unless you have an Iris Pro, in which case you might want to measure the benefits of overclocking it before investing in a new GPU.

I went from an ATI Mobility M3 Rage 128 (8 MB) to an Intel GMA X3100 (GL960 or GM965, this is a very confusing machine). In the near future, I'll be leaving the laptop platform to get my first desktop; a custom-built machine, with either an R9 270X, 280X or GTX 970, depending on the pricing when I'm ready to build.

This time last year, I could pick up a 4 GB R9 270X for £170, and an R9 280 was around £200. Now, there's practically no stock at all on Amazon, and where there is stock, pricing is ludicrously high. What the heck happened? It's actually looking more favorable for me to go the NVIDIA route, which wasn't the case last year.
