Does anyone have some old DDR2 ram they don't want. I need some for a file server and the ram in my old quad core died. I'm also looking for a Xeon x3380 for the file server because its very slow with its pentium D processor.

EDIT: Only need a Xeon now, got 6gb from [Ion] =D

Check ebay i grabbed a E5320 for £6 YMMV

I bought some ram from [Ion] so i'm good for ram. The only X3380 I could find on ebay was $250...

Are there any other CPU's you'd consider?

any 33xx xeon really as long as its fast, socket 775, and cheap

How about a Core 2 Duo?

I don't know if I have any of those. I do have some 5100 and maybe 5300 series though.

It's a server so im leaning towards a xeon processor. I also use it for crunching because its always on, would a xeon get more ppd or a c2d?

Lol I dont have a lga771 mobo :p

I have a Core 2 Duo E6550 that might suit your needs

I have four 1GB sticks of PC2-4300.

There's essentially no difference between a Xeon X3380 and a C2Q Q9650 (apart from 0.13GHZ clock speed, whoop).

Yep, no point in getting a xeon over a Core 2 Quad, they both use the same silicon. The X3380 is so expensive because it is the highest clocked Quad-Core 775 processor ever released. But a QX9650 can be had for $100 less, has an adjustable multiplier, and is the exact same processor as an X3370 performance wise.

You're forgetting the QX9770 at 3.2GHZ :)

Why in Xeon form, though?

...because he asked for a Xeon. I'm just giving him options. I personally would just get the cheapest skt775 Core 2 chip you could find.

Damn, I knew I forgot one. I always just kind of ignored the QX9770 because of how expensive it is.
