1080ti was not cheap either. just because prices now are so fucked doesnt mean it was good back then. just much better than now.

maxwell and pascal were much more expensive than their predecessors.

best means best and new one is always faster than the predecessor . why are you making shit up? in this context best means exactly what it says. especially on hardware.
Sorry it doesn't work that way, CONTEXT matters. You can't jump into a conversation, try to impose your own rules and expect anyone to take your opinion seriously. The OPs original post clarifies everything you need to know if you would seriously like to partake.

Sorry, back on topic. Anytime a tuber creates a "Best Evar" video you can bet your boots it's a slow news week/month. Still, it's fun to debate amongst friends but ultimately impossible to agree upon. Not that it's a bad thing. We all enjoy a healthy debate...it's when things get sidetracked and go off into the brush that things become boorish and hard to want to follow.

What is the the best ever _____? Is generally a great conversation starter. Always fun to consider but rarely agreed upon.

1080ti, hmmm nah I wouldn't go that far. A great long lived card for sure. I don't like to say any one card was the best ever. There are just too many variables and soooo many great cards we've had the fortune to play with. I have personal favorites but I can't say they were the greatest of all time. 4400ti, x800xt, 970pro, 8800gtx, 680gtx, 980ti, 1080ti. Anyone that reads my list immediately thinks of how I've left out so many excellent GPUs! It's impossible to pick only one.

Well for me it was the R9 290 that was my best card.
I had two in Crossfire, I hella loved those :)

Still rockin' with a 290X on my 2nd PC and this is still a good GPU. paid whole 10EUR for this. :D

I voted yes just based on the price vs. performance as I know at one time it was the go-to card for those who needed the extra performance without having to go all in with the entire system. Nowadays, we're generally paying more for less as opposed to it simply being inflation where one would be paying more for the same thing.

Did you watch back to the future or something because you're flux compacitoring back and forth in time

Do you understand GPU price/ performance in the same point in time in history ?

Seems not because you switch to nv branding as some sort of reason it barely beat a 1080ti Performance to justify it's stupid price increase :kookoo:
Then go on about series well after either of these gpu hehe

No, I'm not. Nvidia hasn't released a Titan branded GPU for the past two generations. The last one was the Turing Titan RTX, which is a souped up RTX 2080 Ti, or rather, more accurately, the 2080 Ti is a discount, cut down gaming version of the Titan RTX which is the full chip. The same thing the 1080 Ti is to the Titan Xp, a discounted, gaming-focused version of the processor with a bunch of cores and execution units disabled.

Halo parts are never cost efficient, they're always ~80-100% more expensive for 10-20% more performance. There has never been a time where an exception to this rule existed.

It would still be my GPU if not for Cyberpunk 2077 being unplayable (for me) without DLSS. I absolutely don't care about quality of reflections in puddles, which is what ray tracing in games boils down to. Also, I had the MSI Armor version and never understood the hate it got. It worked, temperatures were reasonable and I never really heard it despite using open testbench as a case. Now I have the also universally disliked MSI Ventus 3080 which I chose specifically for the lack of childish blinking lights. Same story - works very well, is silent and reliable, it went through a 2 year period of mining with no issues. All of them did, in fact.

Titan RTX is not a souped 2080Ti. It had quadro optimisations making it faster than a 3090 at specific software.

Hardware wise it quite literally is. Nvidia granting some extra driver goodies for it is another story altogether. Like I mentioned though neither Quadro nor Titan brands exist anymore. It's been split between GeForce RTX (gaming) and NVIDIA RTX (enterprise), the latter of which span the former Quadro and Tesla brands.

There have been a lot of best GPU's over the decades. Maybe if you were looking into a certain block of time, sure. But it took a lot of best GPU's to get to that point, and there have been a few since..

It wasnt just driver goodies, back then the titan cards could be switched to compute mode allowing other tasks and optimizations to happen on them. Actually something im not even certain can happen anymore. I should open nvsmi and try sometime on my 4090.

It's hard to just come out and say that anyone one GPU was the best because it ends up being a choice made from personal preferences and experiences, regardless of the parameters you define.

Well, that's still a software feature, a nice one though. I only had the original Titan back when it came out, the only thing we had was full speed fp64 at the time...

980 Classified, not even a Ti :D

Good clocker though.
Hi,
Cripes man that's only 4gb
And still was close to 500.us hehe

Bottom line with good clocking and 11gb vmem 1080ti was the first card to be viable for a while with AAA games hehe
Someone posted about cyberpunk guessing 2077 release but 1080ti is only 1gb off the minimum spec's for an old card not shabby and older versions of SP no sweat
Read that wrong 8gb minimum lol

VR HMD I live in real reality and don't need a virtual one.
Software Windows 10 and 11
It would still be my GPU if not for Cyberpunk 2077 being unplayable (for me) without DLSS.
I literally played almost maxed out non-RT non-upscaled 1080p on 1080 Ti no problem. Of course 1440p requires enabling FSR and 4K is just too much but hey, it's playable.

I don't need the game maxed out, I don't have a "all sliders to the right" fetish, but I have a 43", 3840x2160 screen. Rather low density makes rasterized scaling very apparent, and the card wasn't able to keep anywhere close to playable framerate in native resolution even with low details. 3080 couldn't do it either, so DLSS was a lifesaver. I enjoyed the game very much, so I did a stupid thing and bought a graphics card just to enjoy one game. Other than that, I'm almost certain I could easily live with a 1080ti even now. Not much of a gamer to be honest, and I can always play games in a smaller window, with no scaling. Or just use the 27" side screen.
