Itching to Upgrade

BTW, if you want to try Win7, go to newage-os and try some of the neuropass modded os's, they are truely kickass. I love thier first edition of Vista Ultimate nvidia evolution , and some of my hardcore gaming buddies are just flipped about how killer it is.
I'm trying the 7x64 Ultimate for now.

My suggestion looking at your Rig you have listed in your Spec's

Keep the QX6700 A quad core is a Quad core, wiether i7 or not, Of course i7 is better but wtf its still a quad!? and games and programs will reflect that. QX6700 can still stand, OC if you can.

Motherboard, Throw OUT that POS 680i for the love of Techpowerup! Get yourself a P45 motherboard like a Gigabyte P45-UD3P

Storage wise, SSDs are nice but for how much you have to upgrade, wayyyy to costly. Get yourself a 640GB Western Digital Black, you wont ever go back!

Video card, Keep the HD4870 its a great card and will surely last you longer! And with the P45 as well as the lowering costs of HD4870's you can Xfire them for near HD5870 performance!

Like others said, get another 2GB ram, and the person who said you don't need more then 2GB to play games obviously doesn't play a lot of games, trust me YOU want the extra ram, its not for GAME performance(though in some games it can help!) its for OS performance and background tasks!

Though with rising ram prices i HIGHLY suggest you find some second hand on our lovely B/S/T forums. I can even through you some OCZ's silvers 1066mhz 2x1GB however my friend is using them ATM whilst he waits for his replacement ram to come in.

Lastly, Depending on the Size/res of your monitor I would upgrade it to a 21-23" 1080P monitor make that HD4870 work for its living.

BTW it be a great idea to wait till black friday/ Cyber monday and pick up some deals.

Hope this helps!

Very good info guys!, Thanks:)

Also, when i get more RAM im gonna need a nice 64bit OS, so should i just go with Vista or Windows 7?

Im also gonna pick up a bigger/faster HDD.

Windows 7 NO QUESTION!

You're talking about a complete new OS, not an upgrade right?

I would vote for a i7+Mobo+Mem, you can get a pretty decent combo for the money you have.

I always want to upgrade, since i work but dont pay normal house bill, like tv etc, just car insurance, gas and food etc. So every month i can separate some money for PC, but i really have to fight the urge because sometimes its just nonsense

Ok guys, i went out and bought a Western Digital VelociRaptor 300GB HDD.:)

I can't use it till i get Windows 7 tho.(formatting and reinstalling XP on it won't work since i used the key to many times.:()

Imma get a Monitor a bit later.

I've used my XP over 20 times literally and I just call, tell them if its a format, or a pc upgrade[M/B] then they give me the new key to enter.

It is annoying but thats what I paid for..

The other option is to d/l a win7

Aw, RAID0 array would have been so much faster.

I think perhaps for gaming he made the right choice. Raid is much faster in read/write times, so transferring files is benefited greatly. Gaming on the other hand I think benefits significantly from access time, which the Raptors are far superior to 7200 drives in a Raid array in this respect. I think that lowers load times considerably, I know with my raptor I have never had a problem with load times, even in games others seem to complain about them with. It just depends on what you're doing as to which is better. Really, a SSD would have been tops, as it has virtually no access time and high read/write speeds, but they still are just priced insanely.
