So... what seems to me, so far, an underrated game, but I did see quite a few people on TPU pick it up. I'm having fun in Last Epoch, and figured we could use a topic for it.

I'm currently running a Bladedancer Umbral Strike build... with a bunch of triggers from Shift, Synchronized Strike and Smoke Cloud. Make Shadows that drop Umbral Daggers, that spin in place and chase enemies. Shift triggers Shadow Cascade and more Shadow Dagger triggers. Its full on Physical damage... which is outstanding and very easy to scale.

Its all crits here, at a 450% multiplier. Rolled this, my first upgraded legendary, yesterday... granted the affix could be higher... but I didn't want to risk my top items yet. Still a match made in heaven:

Yeah its weird isn't it, I felt like fast forwarding through a lot of portals and way oversized area transition exits (why are they so fcking large?! Accidentally travelling happens a lot) and then 'oh I've got a mastery now' and then you do more insignificant slaughter across various small maps and you're in the end game. Oh yeah there's some theme around time travel. Which really is just more portals. I did really like the alternate reality button in one dungeon, where you need to find your way around locked hallways by going to the other reality and vice versa.

And then you finish the campaign and find more mapping with very little difference to the earlier game.
Oh well. The build porn is good enough to look past it imho

Just thought you might enjoy this thread since I know you have been enjoying the game lately.

I definitely will pick this up when it hits around the 15 dollar mark. I'm in no rush and my backlog is vast, but this is going to be a buy eventually.

I bought this game a long time ago in Early Access. Then I forgot about it and now I came back, tried the online mode for a few days and then switched to offline mode. Still haven't finished campaign with Shaman totem build.

Yeah I've been playing it with a Summoner/minion Necro and so far I liked it but sadly for now I have to put the game aside since I'm picking up Forbidden West on march 21/day 1 PC relase and that will be my main focus of gaming for a while. 'so I have less than 1 week to finish Far Cry 6 tho that I might manage maybe'

I'm not in a hurry since I'm playing offline singleplayer and I buy ARPGs for the long term so it will be played more than enough over time. 'then I will come back to this topic whenever I'm active in the game'

65lvl marksman with physical dmg puncture, multishot and hail of arrows.

Did you figure out that magical balance between different types of damage scaling?
The holy trifecta of added damage + multiplicative (more) damage + additive (increased) damage?

The gist, get all three, in some balanced kind of way, between your skillset and gear. My damage on a Rogue literally exploded once I started playing around with that.

Also, its very, very easy to get high crit % and then crit multiplier % is the best damage scaling you can get - provided your base damage is somewhat okay. Its the highest possible 'more' damage affix you can roll. None of this is really new or special, but it seems in Last Epoch the focus is pretty heavy on that set of mechanics to scale damage proper. And to be honest, its also one of the main focuses for any build - beyond getting a nice combination of skills up and running, the game isn't super deep in that sense.

This also echoes in the way (pun not intended, but... ) you build your resistances up in the end game by doing empowered timelines. I rolled 73% physical resist and 74% void resist yesterday... that frees up a LOT of space in my gear to get optimal stats (even if you consider overcapping resistances to counteract penetration). Last Epoch seems to turn the end game around entirely: not by lowering your base resistance to make your gearing harder, but by actually giving you much more leeway to get crazy affixes going and less in terms of 'bare necessity'.

Eheh lol thats complicated. I just run to empowered timelines asap and do side quests until I have all idols and passive points, then start skipping them. And then you still run through zones at full speed but you start timelines at somewhere around level 50-54. Still under levelled by 5 ish levels which means you still get max xp bonus AND you spent the earlier levels killing much easier (dying faster) mobs on top.

Did you do this yet or am I missing something?

trying variant 2 atm. i had void knight that just finished spear quest and was about to go to harbor town when i found this.
was 51, went to first monolith instead and it went fairly easy. but i didnt follow exp books and skip everything else advice (dont have 24k+ shards so mats framing is always useful).
finished stability quest for fall of outcast and went for black sun next but did just 2 echoes. iirc i've hit 61 on 2nd one. so leveling wise it goes as the guy said (at least at the beginning).

he also has forging guide for preparing exalts for legendaries.

sick build
even w/o legendries melts everything. -12 lvls on lvl 90 zones is walk in the park.
works fine before lvl 36 (required for uniq daggers) it's a just a bit slower than demonstrated.

How so? I've got 700 hours in GD... still liking this a lot.

Its not the same thing, sure. Its a bit of a middle ground between D3 and GD, I would say. Meaningful crafting (GD), complexity in builds (GD), but no multiclassing and less flexibility in builds (D3), and also GD's respec policy, while adopting D3's smoothness and QoL features. In my mind it took much of the good stuff from both to make something pretty decent. It does also suffer from D3's repetitiveness in end game, but hey... GD hasn't got much of that end game altogether, I mean, you can, but there's very little payoff.

I guess for me it was the lack in detail and very linear feel of LE. Where GD gave me a sense of scale and mystery of where I am heading.
Music and atmosphere is also top notch in GD.
